About this listen

'Crime fiction at its best.' Keri Beevis

Why does someone want the Lawrence family dead?

The Lawrences were the perfect family: successful, beautiful and happy, until one night their whole world was ripped apart.

Detective Sergeant Jenna Morgan is called to investigate the suspected arson attack and death of the Lawrence family at the charred remains of their stunning home, Kimble Hall.

The case takes a sinister turn as the body count fails to tally.

Suspecting that someone may have survived the inferno, DS Morgan and her team need to discover whether they are looking for a witness, or someone far more dangerous.

Who set the fire? Who wanted this family extinguished beyond recognition?

As the case progresses, DS Morgan realises she has a calculating, cold-blooded killer on her hands, and the race is on to track them down before they kill again...

A gripping psychological crime novel from bestselling author Diane Saxon, perfect for fans of Cara Hunter.

I definitely enjoyed listening to this one. I did find that it had loose ends and I would’ve liked to have known how certain things turned out. Will the next book give closure? It wasn’t set up to feel that way, but I hope so. I also wonder if the book would’ve been better if the author would’ve just stuck more to the main story and not so many random off shoots.
The story was also a bit drug out.

Enjoyed, a bit untidy

This is a review of the first three novels in the DS Jenna Morgan police procedural series - Find Her Alive, Someone's There, and What She Saw. The series does continue, although not for me - gave it my best.

The series kicks off with a girl's abduction. The story's authenticity went out the window, for me, with her sister, DS Jenna Morgan, being involved in solving the case - there is no way the police would allow this to happen! The remaining stories are a bit predictable, but enjoyable listens. DS Jenna Morgan is the lead character and solves murders with a team that appears through all novels. Good guys, bad guys, a bit grizzly at times. Start with book one for continuity as character relationships develop.

Written by Diane Saxon, narrated by Katy Sobey, each about 8-10 hours of listening in unabridged audiobook format. Last release in 2021, more to come, by Boldwood Books.

First time I’ve listen to this authors work. Kept me listening from beginning to end without interruption!
The investigators Jenna, Mason and Ryan well suited to be a team. Loved Domino and the tiny tiny Chihuahua and of curse the young girl Poppy.
Definitely recommend this book. I will have to go back to the previous stories.
The narrator did and excellent job!!

Excellent literary fiction

The plot beginning draws you in instantly. Then twist after twist are thrown in all while including bursts of humor sure to either have you laughing aloud or silently. The twists reveal rather quickly the rationale of the chilling beginning but nonetheless still thrilling enough to keep your hooked on listening. Several more mini twists leading to an outcome surely and completely unexpected. Finally ending with a twinge of disbelief of U.K. law and in my opinion could have afforded one more mini chapter to detail and applaud the unsuspected last heroine of the ending. Overall a fantastic suspenseful novel not so much psychological. I enjoyed listening but reading it would have been equally satisfying.

Chilling, Sarcastically Humorous & Multiple Twists

We’ll written, but the actual story pertaining to the main theme was 1/3 of the book. I kept thinking I was listening to a different story. Author is good, and although past/present adds interest; this time went too far …

Too many story lines

Ok so this review pretty much sums up the books in this series...the story is really good, and I genuinely want to know how it ends but there are parts where I wonder if the author is paid by the word. Like, half a chapter describing the main character's stomach growling after a long shift. Then at the same time not fully developing or tying together other parts of the story. So much of the early part of the book is about the morning full of drug busts, while simultaneously developing the story of the Lawrence family, and Gordon Lawrence as a drug kingpin or whatever, but NEVER ties the two together??? I just don't understand - it's like she had to get it published to meet a deadline or something. Still love the characters and definitely enough suspense to keep listening, but keep thinking it could be so much better.

I never usually write a review, but I didn’t want anyone else to waste their time.

Boring

JB - California

I was really getting into the beginning of this book. But it took a turn and got boring going into a totally different story. The ending kind of sucks because the main story only a quarter of the book. I don’t know what happened with the drug factory that this father supposedly built. Had too many lose ends. Could have been better.

2 Separate Stories

I felt like the author needed to explain how daddy became the cold character that he was. How do you raise a family and then one day just kill them? It just doesn’t make sense.

Needed backstory on Daddy
