Publisher's summary

A fresh follow-up to his first book, My Search for Christopher on the Other Side, Joe McQuillen continues to share his difficult journey in this father-and-son tale, We’re Not Done Yet, Pop: My Lessons from the Other Side, while simultaneously finding in-roads to connection and thriving on this ability to visit with his son on the other side at various "thin places".

With Chris at his side, Joe takes us from his beloved son’s gravesite where a trusted friend might sometimes leave an empty Landshark bottle to his bedroom (now Joe’s office) in Winnetka, Illinois which still smells of sage and teen sweat, to the Florida Gulf beaches at night where Joe has found hope and affirmation of his son’s everlasting love through shared dialogues, to In Balance Ranch Academy in Arizona, where Chris was a shining star and a leader for troubled youth, and where he also found healing and the love of an American paint horse.

Through their travels and visits to thin places, we learn about both Joe and his son. We learn that Christopher struggled while at a military school for a year, and that Joe recognized this and pulled him out. We learn that Joe is a devoted member of AA and that his son’s struggles (and the awareness that he suffered) continue to pain him, even from the other side, but these struggles also continue to teach him how to be a better man and a better dad.

Navigating the roads in his Jeep with a cigar, his trusty yellow lab, a Buffalo Bills folding chair in back, and a love of music and audio books which alternately pour from the speakers, Joe is the quintessential, hard-working guy’s-guy who loves golf and a good steak, who sometimes makes “an Irish exit”, and who also happens to have a heart bigger than life itself. He is a devoted, loving dad to William and Caroline (and Christopher), and a supportive, caring husband to Sally. And, he is a solid trusted friend to many.

Joe and Chris’s story, which is told as a mixture of narrative, italicized visits with Chris from the other side, input and conversations with respected psychic mediums, a thread of music floating throughout, is relatable to anyone who has experienced loss or even anyone who has imagined it. Their words - father and son - speak directly to readers, providing courage, strength, hope, and connectivity - all delivered with a healthy dose of McQuillen humor.

This audiobook provides comfort and solace for all of us, reminding us life is precious, and that although we may go around only once, we can continue to find connection with our loved ones from both sides of the veil.

We’re no done yet Pop

Love love love this. As a mom who lost her son to drowning just 5 years ago this month I found so many hopeful and loving ways to stay connected to our son. I found many parallels in our journeys. Thank you Joe, and Chris.

Another hit outta the park from Mr. McQ & Chris

If you are here, it's probably because you read Mr. McQuillen's first book which was both extraordinary and phenomenal. Really. Please look there for my full review; but this book is just as stellar as the first. You're not going to get messages of hope, peace of mind, and overwhelming love from any other book. The energy of our loved ones in spirit is strong and it's all around us.
I am so eager for book number three. I know that Christopher has so much more to tell us.

With gratitude,
Melissa

Great story!

This was a great audiobook! I listened to it within a couple of days and thought it flowed very well. I loved the parts where they read what Joes son Chris said. It felt very real and genuine. It definitely resonated with me and stories like this make it easier to not fear death.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has lost a loved one, especially a child. It may give you some comfort in knowing your loved one is still with you, even if you can’t see, hear, touch or smell them.
