About this listen

In the high-fashion world of the mid-'80s, Ashleigh McDowell falls victim to a painful betrayal by Danielle Norman, a naive and vulnerable young buyer who is fighting to save her plummeting career. How high a price will both women pay in their battle over a grave secret?

Each step Ashleigh takes to uncover the truth about Danielle's actions - and her whereabouts - unwittingly exposes her to a criminal mastermind who feels events spinning out of his control. Unexpectedly, Ashleigh discovers an ally in her hunt for Danielle - the handsome Conrad Taylor. But is he the man who will steal her heart? Or the man who will break it?

In a race against both time and the emotions that haunt her, Ashleigh ultimately finds what fate holds for her.

From international award-winning author Darlene Quinn, Webs of Fate is a tension-filled work of fiction that creates the background for the personalities and motivations that drive the stories in Webs of Power and Twisted Webs.

Wow!

Darlene Quinn is an author whom I've listened to before. She has a great writing style. I loved the mystery and suspense this book had. Karin Allers did a great performance and added so much emotion to the book. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and or publisher.

This book has it all!

The author literally put it all in this book. It has suspense, mystery, action, crime, humor, and the love story. I enjoyed it from start to finish.

Welcome to the world of fashion.

Would you consider the audio edition of Webs of Fate to be better than the print version?

I prefer listening to audiobooks because I can do other things while I am listening.

Would you recommend Webs of Fate to your friends? Why or why not?

I found the book to be too pretentious and the overuse of the characters names annoying.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Nothing. She has a lovely voice and knew her characters well.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The overuse of the characters names to be very distracting to the story.

Any additional comments?

Webs of Fate

Good book from an earlier decade. Well written the author does a good job of captivating the reader from the beginning. As I was listing to this one in 2017 it seemed strange that they used such minimal technological resources. Yet that was the best available at the time. The narrator does a good job with the dialect making it easy to distinguish between characters. Definitely on my list of referrals.

I received a free audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Long Interesting Story

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, via Audiobook Boom, and have voluntarily left this review."

This story is about the department stores during the 80's. Loyalty, betrayal and attitude changes are discussed and explored. This story was nice and I enjoyed it. The narrator was very good.

Like New Again

Any additional comments?

I first read this book back in 2011 when it came out and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am new to this audible experience so I am going back to listen to books I have in my collection. The way the narrator reads the story it is a whole new experience, she brings such life to the characters. I really enjoyed how she made me feel the emotions that author wanted you to feel from each character whether they were agitated, worried, overwhelmed etc..you feel it through her reading of the story.

I look forward to listening to the other books in this series in the coming months.

A fashion Fiction..

It was very intricately and cleverly wrought as a work of fiction, Once I was past the first third of the book, I couldn't put it down. Though it's short and can be read in a few hours (as I did), the pacing really picks up, and keeps the reader guessing throughout. And was glad to see how the events unfolded.

Overall, a very good read..

Entertaining Romantic Mystery

Any additional comments?

A look into the high fashion world of the 80's, Webs of Fate combined mystery, intrigue and romance for a very satisfying story. The narration was well done and enhanced my listening experience. Be prepared for a long list of characters and a lengthy listen! The chapters were fairly short, which broke the book down into very manageable chunks. Overall, Webs of Fate was a very enjoyable listen and I would recommend it.

Department Store Mystery

I did enjoy this book, however, I did find it a tad long. There were a lot of characters and I sometimes found it a bit difficult to keep them straight. I had read “Conflicting Webs” in which Ashleigh was now Mrs, Taylor and it was interesting to hear how this came about. Books, with the lead being strong independent career oriented women, are one of my favorites. I am definitely interested in reading the rest of the series.
