About this listen

A report on how the greed of a privileged few, subsidized by public funding, creates substantial profits for themselves from mass human suffering. This was a speech given by General Butler during a nationwide tour in the early 1930's, but it applies even more today! Listen as he frankly discusses, from his experience as a career military officer, how business interests commercially benefit from warfare. He then suggests several practical solutions for reducing the pillage.

Excellent Foreshadowing of Current War Pursuits

General Smedley Butler was on point with this entire book 80 years after it was written it could not hit closer to home.

My audiobooks app

I am pleased by the whole thing, the ability to enjoy books where ever I happen to be is special to me. I can only profit and benefits from an unabridged book read by excellent readers who make a book accessible to all through audiobooks.

A deeper yet unpopular patriotism

What a sharp man with great wit. You know almost every high level military officer figures this duplicity out, but it rarely comes to light.

Racketeer

Knowing what happens over the 90 years that follow this book, I am confident in declaring Butler a prognosticator! Too bad profiteers are also hard-working.

Excellent Timeless Listen

Even though this was written decades ago, it is perfectly written to explain what is happening today.

Thought provoking

General Butler is clearly a man who saw horrible things during the first world war. Many of the promises of his book seem to have been disproven by the Second World War, but are unfortunately just as applicable to modern conflicts as they were to our expeditionary ones at the beginning of the 20th century.

straight shooting

As a millennial generation Marine, I find, understand and agree 100% with general Butler here. But have we gotten ourselves so far into the racket that it is now too late to get out?
