About this listen

In the apocalypse, the first weapon Adrian will have to upgrade is himself.

The end of the world as we know it couldn’t come at a worse time for him. One minute, he’s an operations manager who’s overseeing a construction job in the wilderness. The next, an unknown energy force changes the very nature of life itself, from the smallest organism to the top of the food chain.

The Earth’s surviving inhabitants, its environment, and the very laws of physics have all undergone fundamental transformations. Many of those changes aren’t pretty. Plenty of them are deadly. Luckily for Earth, this has happened to other species before, and everyone receives an interface that survivors of similar events have used to navigate through an alien landscape.

Adrian’s going to need every advantage he can get. He’s stranded in the middle of nowhere; there are days, maybe weeks of travel between him and his family. In a world full of monsters and mayhem, survival means beating the learning curve....

Slow Start, but Worth It

The story starts off pretty slowly, but the plot and action pick up and continue strongly to the end. The premise is quite good, and lends a believable reason for the shift. On the whole, the story was quite enjoyable, and I enjoyed the narrator. I'll be continuing the series.

It was a bit of a slow burn in the beginning...

I grabbed this up because it was one of Audibles daily deals and a litRPG to boot. Not because I knew anything about the book or even what Wagga was, I thought that might be a monster. 😆
I found the beginning a bit, of a slow burn and I even had some problems figuring the complexity of the new system. A system that in an eyeblink had taken over the world in this apocalyptic adventure. But I stuck with it and caught on. As the systems AI finely started being helpful, all the while fervently insisting that he wasn't sentient.
I loved Adrian the site manager for a solar company, was at a job in Wagga when the world went topsy-turvy. His goal was to get home to his family in Melbourne and make sure that they were safe. But he felt responsible to his co-workers. The crew he helped hire. His rules were few, rule 1 safety first, rule 2 keep them safe, rule 3 make them stronger . Which turned out to be a really big job, even bigger when a Roc had been added to the equation.
So grab the book and enjoy listening to Grant Cartwright narrate this fun litRPG.

Yet another "but I'm not a hero" MC

Could not stand the constant emotional breakdowns and crying about his family, while surrounded by thousands in similar situations that were able to cope.

Great series

As a huge video game nerd, this book was an amazing read/listen for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it, both in the way that it was written, and the reading itself from the narrator. Definitely worth getting through this book

Bad narrator.

I liked the book, in my opinion. I like these type of stories and I enjoyed the concept of this one. My only issue is the Narrator he paused way to much, very mono tone and bland. I had to rewind many times as I keept getting lost due to having difficulty telling the difference between mono logging, conversations and visions even when the "system" speeks it's difficult to tell. He over emphasizes every other word and pauses 9 times in every sentence. other than this Narrator I liked the story.

narrator needs more practice

great story but the narrator needs to work on his different voices, it can sometimes be hard to tell who is talking.

Save the Credit

The writing bogs the book down. It makes the narration feel really stunted and jerky. The descriptions of the world and the things in it are terrible.

For example, the kind of armor the MC buys is never described in any detail... it's just "shiny new armor." Honestly, this sounds more like an outline with more fleshed-out combat encounters.

100% Skippable.

Redo with Better Voice.

Good listen, but narrator came off a bit dry. It was hard to connect being that the narrator seemed like he didn't even want to be reading this. Which is a shame. I joined Audible to listen to this series, specifically.

Nice Twist on System Apocalypse

fast paced and a nice twist on system apocalypse stories. only the MC is memorable at this time, hopefully some more characters get some story time. performance is a bit stilted, but completely passable.
