About this listen
From best-selling author Soraya Lane comes a story of friendship, love, and heartbreak at the end of World War II.
1945: Along with hundreds of other war brides, Betty, Madeline, Alice, and June set sail for New York to be with the men they love.
In the days they spend at sea, the four young women become firm friends and vow to stay in touch no matter what their new lives bring.
Life in a new country comes with many challenges, but Betty, Madeline, Alice, and June didn't move half way across the world to give up without a fight. As their love is tested, the one thing they can count on is the friendship they forged while crossing the Atlantic.

Story
At the height of World War II, the British Air Transport Auxiliary need help. A group of young women volunteer for action, but the perils of their new job don’t end on the tarmac. Things are tough in the air, but on the ground their abilities as pilots are constantly questioned. There is friction from the start between the new recruits. Spirited American Lizzie turns heads with her audacity, but few can deny her flying skills. She couldn’t be more different from shy, petite Ruby, who is far from diminutive in the sky. It falls to pragmatic pilot May to bring the women together.

When Hazel is given the chance to parachute into Nazi-occupied France, she seizes the opportunity to do more for the British war effort than file paperwork. Alongside her childhood friend, French-born Rose, she quickly rises up the ranks of the freedom fighters. When Grace, April, and Poppy join the US Army Nurse Corps, they see it as little more than an adventure, one made all the better by their first station: Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Joined at the hip, idealistic Grace, exuberant Poppy, and brave but haunted April frolic in the sun, attending parties, flirting with the handsome soldiers, and becoming fast friends with seasoned nurse Eva. Story
1941. Audrey Coltrane has always wanted to fly. It's why she implored her father to teach her at the little airfield back home in Texas. It’s why she signed up to train military pilots in Hawaii when the war in Europe began. And it’s why she insists she is not interested in any dream-derailing romantic involvements, even with the disarming Lieutenant James Hart, who fast becomes a friend as treasured as the women with whom she flies. Then one fateful day, she gets caught in the air over Pearl Harbor just as the bombs begin to fall, and suddenly, nowhere feels safe.

Story
As war moves ever closer, the sleepy English village of Crowmarsh Priors settles into a new sort of normal: Evacuees from London are billeted in local homes. The nightly German air raids become grimly mundane. Rationing curtails every comfort. Men leave to fight and die. And five women forge a bond of friendship that will change their lives forever in this engrossing novel of loyalty, loss, and love in the shadow of World War II.With the hardships of war intensifying every day, the women band together to defeat formidable enemies and find remarkable strength within themselves to help one another. It is a war-forged loyalty certain to endure years and distance. When four of the women return for a celebration fifty years later, their mission is not simply to commemorate or remember. They’ve returned to confront a traitor whose actions cost countless lives — and to avenge one of their own at last.

Good book, Glad I listened to it!
The narration was good, but I really prefer audio books that have more than One person reading it. I usually choose books that have a female reading her part, and a male reading his.

an easy listen
I liked the story. It was an easy listen with characters I liked. However, it would be far better with more length -- more time to develop each woman's story. It felt rushed and I found myself longing for more.

A Story of Love and Sacrifice.
Four women leave England to join their husbands whom the married during WWII. The story of the voyage and the strength that it require to forsake their families and their communities is so mesmerizing that I couldn’t stop listening until forced to sleep. The performance and words were so wonderfully written and voiced that I will probably rerun and listen again.
