About this listen

A madman. A sex cult. And world-changing genetic magick.

VERITY STRANGE—Hedge Witch, Youngest Daughter of the Strange Family

Seeing the future isn’t all it’s cracked up to be—especially when you can’t change it. Even more so when your Talent nearly kills you. I’ve searched the world for a guru—a magickal monk—who could help me tame my divination powers, but most were frauds or worse. Being young and female is precarious when you’re consorting with powerful adepts. But then I met Eliphas Storm, and everything changed...

WYLDE BANE—FBI Analyst, Cult Expert

Eliphas Storm is like any other cult leader. Never mind that he’s gathered millions of followers to his sex-magick-enhancing temples. Never mind that he’s likely the madman behind these Talent-destroying drugs. He’s all about the power to control people—people like the beautiful and naive Verity Strange—and I’m determined to take him down. I grew up in a cult, and I know just how much he could damage a woman like her. But going undercover with an uncooperative asset is a good way to get me killed. And stepping back into the world I left is dangerous in a whole different way...

Wylde is intent on bringing down a charismatic cult leader. Verity is bent on proving his innocence and seducing her way into his inner circle. Together, they have to stop whoever is making the Talent-destroying drugs threatening Chicago’s magickal populace.

Verity Strange is the third book in a new paranormal romantic suspense series from bestselling romance author Alisa Woods. The first three books in the series (Ever Strange, Mercy Strange, Verity Strange) follow the three Strange sisters, each powerful witches in an influential magickal family embroiled in a mysterious plot to change everything about the magickal world. Part urban fantasy, Legal Magick takes place in an alternate Chicago where High Magick returned in 1859 and is now integral in every aspect of the legal—and illegal—world. Each book is a standalone romance.

Deception & power

Third & final book in this series. Verity has what she calls a dark gift that she doesn't know how to control. She has visions of the future that are linked to when she climaxes during sex. She knows that if she can give herself to the leader of the group she's a part of that she can control it. Wilde, if an FBI agent, sent with Verity to infiltrate this group & find out where they are manufacturing the drug that will turn on magical abilities. She doesn't believe it's being done, but she agrees to help with the investigation. When they make it into the compound/sanctuary, they see it's just one big orgy-fest. Wilde knows that something is seriously off about this as he grew up in a cult & this is just like how he grew up. Verity finally accepts that she doesn't want to be an initiate & decides Wilde is her better option. She's slammed with a vision of the future. It's now a race against time to find the lab before the FBI comes in full force.

This is exactly what I expected from Alisa--great characters & a plot with unique twists. This is another action-packed story that keeps you on the edge of your seat with everything that happens to our main characters. If you haven't read or listened to this series, grab it up today. You won't be disappointed.

I love Lauren Sweet's narrations & Christopher Kipiniak is great too.

Finally

Good conclusion to this story. Verity is naive but soon learns to deal with her issues with the help of Wylde. Finally we get to see who developed the med magic threatening Chicago. Lauren Sweet and Christopher Kipiniak gave good performances.

Sex and Magic

This was a cute book; it was a bit silly at times but wayyyyy hot in others. I loved the sultry voice of the male narrator and the female narrator played off of him well.

Amazing Paranormal

This book was quite strange in the fact that Verity fell for a cult group and name of sex and fear. FBI agent Wylde has powers also and together they made one hell of a pair. Why she would fear the things she did really made no sense to me. This cult leader knows her powers and wants to take them away from her for his own personal gain. Glad she was able to overcome and her fear and let grandma help her out.
I received this free for an honest review from the narrator or author.

Held steady right through to the finish!

Verity Strange is book three in the Legal Magick series and the concluding piece. I do not suggest reading these books out of order as they really are meant to be one contiguous story. Each book is about a different sister and her partner in this story, but they are one big story.

Verity was not what I expected. I think that should be said first. Ever and Mercy were both very serious and dark (understandably when you realize how dangerous they are) but Verity always came across as very light and playful. Turns out, she's that way because she's mostly in her head and not for light and breezy reasons. I ended up liking her a lot more than I expected I would. Her character was just as deep and relatable as her sisters when it came down to it.

Wylde was another interesting character, though I can't say he was the surprise Verity was. All of our male protagonists have had dark and somewhat twisted pasts for sure, and Wylde fit that profile. His fit perfectly (by design) with the theme of this book, so it worked well. But man did my poor heart ache for him. I think what I liked best about him was how easily he managed to play of the naive and innocent 'young' man to pretty much everyone.

As stated before, this book is the conclusion of the Strange trilogy and the big finale where we learn the origin, purpose, and how of the med-magic drugs that we have been chasing for three books. Everything has led us to Eliphas Storm and his sex cult; and boy let me tell you, that man is appropriately disturbing. Anyhow, no spoilers, just suffice to say that the book has some magic action, some soul searching, a sweet romance, a heaping dose of steaminess, and a whole lot of crazy cultists. Also some appearances from characters from the last two books. Yay for more Zane!

If you haven't read Ever Strange, you really need to pick it up and start there. If you like magic, characters with checkered/tormented pasts, romance, steamy fun, and a good crime case, this series is definitely for you.

As for the narrators...I liked Christopher Kipiniak well enough. His voices were differentiated enough that I knew who was speaking and his female voices weren't grating like some. His inflection was good enough, but I feel like he could have made me feel it a bit more. Lauren Sweet had good inflection, but I couldn't tell one voice from the other most of the time. Her males voices weren't half bad, however. Overall, though I enjoyed the previous duos more, the book was still an enjoyable listen.

This is the third and last book in the Legal Magick Series, a great paranormal romantic suspense. The story continues with Verity Strange story. Verity and Wylde are great characters, and I love their chemistry. They work great together. Verity is the youngest daughter of the Strange Family, and a hedge Witch. Wylde is an FBI Analyst at Cult Expert. This story is action packed and suspenseful. This is a great conclusion to this amazing Series. Lauren Sweet and Christopher Kipiniak did a great job with the narration. This is a great team author/narrators. I truly enjoyed listening this story/Series.

Fantastic Conclusion - Verity and Wylde's Story

The Legal Magick series has been so good, the storyline continues throughout all three books but this book, Verity and Wylde's story, is a fast-paced standalone book which kept me engaged from start to finish. This may be a complete story but it's best to listen to or read all three books in the order they were written to fully understand the whys and wherefores, and as characters do cross over and are all present for the incredible climax to this story.

This is Verity's story, she's the youngest of the three Strange sisters, born into a very powerful family, each sister has a different "talent" which may or may not be "Legal". Verity is a Hedgewitch, she has traveled the world looking for someone who could help her control her "gift" because without help her "gift/talent" could kill her.

That's where Eliphas Storm comes in, he's a monk involved in sex magic, a cult leader who is all about power and control he's also a person of interest to the FBI. Wylde Bane is an expert on cults, having been brought up in one, he's an analyst working in the Criminal Magick Department of the FBI. He is assigned the task of going undercover with Verity inside the Temple because of his upbringing but also because of his talent, but whilst he is determined to take down Eliphas, Verity is determined to prove his innocence.

I have to say that I felt for Verity, she had such a difficult task, if she followed Eliphas would it harm her family? Wylde assured her it would harm her family and many others. But if she worked with Wylde would her "gift" finally kill her? Wylde, on the other hand, was adorable, for a man used to working inside the Bureau he did incredibly well inside Eliphas' Temple. These two were perfect for each other as, in the end, they worked together to stop the threat to mankind.

This story has it all action, adventure, drama, danger, suspense, lots of twists and turns, enemies, intrigue, mystery and secrets, and many surprises I didn't see coming. There's also conflict, resolution, confusion, good vs. evil, fighting, death and murder, anger, fear, betrayal, deceit I could go on but you get the picture. But amidst all the chaos Verity and Wylde find each other, their talents make a perfect combination as Wylde helps Verity grow into the witch/person she was born to be. Theirs is a sweet love story which at times seems doomed to fail.

The climax of this book brings all three sisters' stories to a close it's exciting and compelling. This is a series I would heartedly recommend for its originality and intriguing storyline. All the main characters in this series have a different gift/talent and all of them are needed in the final chapters of this book to defeat the terrible threat the world is facing.

The narration of this book was so well done, every character was different and distinct. Thank you so much to Alisa Woods for writing the series and in this instance, my thanks go to Lauren Sweet, Christopher Kipiniak for their incredible narration.

I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.

Awesome conclusion

This is book 3 in the series and is a stand alone book with a wonderful HEA. I recommend reading the books in order to understand the overall plot. Verity and Wilds story is so good. Could not put it down. The narrators do a awesome job of making the characters come to life. Recommend to everyone who loves a good paranormal read.

Yuck..

Jeez, I can't listen to this narration, or this stupid story, for that matter. How these narrators got all these 5 star reviews is beyond me, unless it's because the other reviewers give every book they listen to 4 and 5 stars. When Lauren Sweet speaks for Wylde Bane HE sounds just like a girl and when Christopher Kipiniak speaks for Wilde HE still sounds like a girl. It's unbelievable. They're terrible. And the story is all about sex, and when Verity "comes" her witchy powers "come" forth too. What? Wylde is trying to get the bad guy and goes into a temple where everyone is having sex and some are involved with BDSM? Yeah, that's definitely not for me. I enjoyed the first book, Ever Strange, I should have stopped after that one.
