Publisher's summary

Roberts makes the case that this may be the greatest time in history to start a business. Using Roberts' strategies and principles in this book, learn how to become "unemployable" your entire life! Most of us are taught to get a good education and a good job. The idea that we should be content to have someone else dictate our daily commute, our income, schedules, and vacations is the accepted norm. To some, the idea of life in a cubicle eight hours a day is akin to torture. What does it really take for someone to jump off the employment treadmill and participate in the free enterprise system, unencumbered by traditionally accepted myths?

Shoulda known better…

I bought this book after seeing a fellow business traveler reading it on a plane. I should have known to look at when it was written (2015.)

The book DOES have some good basic entrepreneurial instruction. However, it is poorly written and I felt needed an editor. Additionally, there were VERY long pauses in the narration between EVERY chapter. So much so, that each time I had to check that the audio hadn’t stopped.

So, once I finished the book I investigated the publisher and discovered that it was published by “Defiance Press and Publishing.”

From their website:
“Defiance Press & Publishing is a publisher of very high-quality, principled fiction, non-fiction, current events, and children’s literature, from outstanding authors with a special emphasis on God, country, liberty, and conservatism, to serve the diverse interests of our readers through various imprints.”

This then made sense why an editor would have made the choice to keep a number of overtly political statements in the book like when the author tells his readers that if you send your kids to college they will come back socialists, that employee rights regulations is “ridiculous”, and that any taxation other than a consumption tax is basically criminal.

So, I would not recommend Unemployable! I am sure there any more current and politically neutral books available.

WOW just WOW

This is the best business book I have ever read. Where the book is written as a guide to entrepreneurship, I found some tips and tricks to use in my current employment. Unemployable is a very thorough and honest synopsis of the sacrifices and rewards of starting a business of any type. David Thomas Roberts writes from the experience of his business successes and failures while he sums them up in a succinct and crisp manner. Have you ever read a motivational or business book that digs into the details so much you find yourself asking continually "and your point is?" or you are bored to the point of nausea? This is NOT that book!

Unemployable should be required reading for all college business, economics, et al majors. A professor could easily build an entire semester around the practices in this book. On the flip, while he doesn't demean education, Roberts is a realist and understands that not everyone is cut out for college and appreciates the value of an individual in lieu of a piece of paper.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who is thinking about starting a business, is currently in business, or for someone who is employed in sales, marketing or customer service.

This is a great book!
