About this listen

A powerful novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel, about an ambassador's daughter who is kidnapped and the former undercover agent who comes to her aid, saving her life in more ways than one.

For DEA Special Agent Marshall Everett, life as he knows it is over once a gunshot wound renders his arm useless. Barred forever from the undercover work he loves, he has nothing - no close friends, no family, no hometown or base, and no desire to settle for life behind a desk. He's called to action in the most unlikely of places when he stumbles upon a beautiful girl burying an old steel box in a Parisian park. Drawn into the mystery, Marshall soon discovers that she is Ariana Gregory, daughter of the U.S. ambassador to Argentina, who is trying to find herself again after being kidnapped and brainwashed by radical revolutionaries. But there are powerful forces at large who will not rest until they secure revenge, and Marshall and Ariana will face yet more trials - and another beginning - before they can truly bury the dark past and embark on a new life together.

Over Half of the book is a prologue

I was so excited to listen to this but then disappointed when I was 9 chapters in to the 17 chapters and the two main characters had not met. Yes a prologue is important but not 9 chapters worth. Many scenes are filler, discussing what type of apt to live in, and a waste of time. I want something to keep my attention but I'm now using it to combat my insomnia.

intriguing story

I enjoyed the characters. In the beginning it was hard to see how they would get together. Good read.

Interesting, entertaining, and heart warming.

Two parallel stories that merged together for a nice conclusion. Very enjoyable story and performance by the narrator.

A bit hard to follow, but read below for tips…

🐎 This is the first book that I have listened to by Danielle Steel. It is very good and I plan on picking up any and all books that I find on sale.

It is important to note that this book has three sections that culminated in the third/final section. We first read about DEA Special Agent Marshall Everett on assignment. Then he seems to drop off the plot and we are introduced to a whole new cast of characters Ariana Gregory (a diplomat's daughter.) However, the third section blends things together.

I cannot add to the Publisher Summary without spoiling. I wish that I had known about the three parts to begin with because I was almost ready to give it up. But stick with it, it is a five star listen.

Alexander Cendese is SO good as Marshall Everett. He is strong and manly sounding and also performs the angst and heartbreak that Marshall in some situations. (Again, cannot elaborate without spoiling.)

I also felt that Cendese was able to portray Ariana and very believable way.

Overall: I have heard of Danielle Steel my entire adult life but never chose to read/listen anything by her. I'm thrilled to have listened to my first Danielle Steel. At this writing (2017) there are 70 unabridged audiobooks to choose from.

🐎*Hopefully you will find this a clever tip. I have added all of Danielle Steel's books to my Audible wish list. If Audible has a sale that includes books on the list, they will automatically be selected/highlighted within the sale.

🐎Thanks for taking the time to read my review. Please select – yes – below if you found my review helpful. Consider following me on Audible, my preferred genres are: 1) CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE and 2) ESPIONAGE/THRILLERS. However, I have many opportunities to listen and review books from almost every genre. A good story and as normal a good ending. A bit predictable and not as emotional as her some of her books, but still enjoyed. The narration was good.

Nice story but calling it a romance is misleading

This is more a thriller than anything else but it was listed under romance titles. Good story nonetheless and I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t what I expected. Since I thought it was a romance I was able to identify the love interest from a mile away. It just took 80 percent of the book for them to meet! And more yet to turn it into a romance. But, if you like thrillers with a touch of romance you’ll enjoy it.
