About this listen

From Book 1: Killed in action. Reborn on the battlefield.

Sergeant Paxton Alejo is a League of Humanity Marine Commando, the best of the best. After getting sent to oversee a batch of fresh conscripts, Pax makes the fateful decision to sacrifice his life to save his subordinates. He is posthumously awarded the Cross of Honor, the highest military medal . . .

. . . except that the Marine Corps isn’t done with him.

Using highly classified, experimental technology, his deceased body is transported to a top secret facility and infected with a genetically modified mycelium that can imprint on his brain, creating a biological download, ultimately preserving most of his memories and combat skills.

Despite being labeled legally dead, he wakes and feels alive.

He has no rights. He is no longer a citizen. Instead, he’s government property, part of a clandestine unit made up of the finest spec ops Marines, soldiers, and sailors, each one deceased. . .

. . . and all with capabilities too valuable to lose.

The military’s new goal is to create the finest combat force ever conceived, capable of bringing back the best of the best, no longer bound or constrained by death itself.

With enemies on the battlefield and at home, and with no real rights to his name, Pax and his fellows will struggle to survive in a universe built only for the living.

Great story

Really enjoy the details in this story. Some of the military explanations are truly interesting. Not sure the narrator brings this story to life as much as he should.

Really Interesting Concept - A Great Listen, but .

I really love the concept and action of this series of books. The narrator is great too. He makes the characters seem very realistic. He's now my second favorite narrator behind RC Bray. That said, Mr. Wayne was not a Marine and it's pretty obvious. He gets a lot of the lingo wrong, I was in the Corps for many, many years and each one of these mistakes just makes me cringe when I hear them. Some examples of his lingo mistakes include saying "ess-NCO" instead of "Staff NCO"; "pogs" instead of "Poh-gs": "Pose" instead of "Paus" for position; "jee-dunk" instead of "gee-dunk": "Coresssss-man" with an s instead of "Core-man" for a Corpsman: and lastly, no one calls a Chief Warrant Officer a Chief Warrant Officer. They're called "Gunners" in the Marine Corps. I'm not sure how you can write an entire series of books about Marines, and get so much right, but also get so many common Marine sayings wrong. Maybe a little Marine specific technical advising during production. But again, I do really enjoy the books very, very much. I'm almost done with the second one and am looking forward to the third.

Original concept

I enjoyed the Concept of using fungus to reanimate the dead. It did remind me somewhat of the 'old man's war' novel by however. It was also John Sto see a different sort of enemy other than just bipedal and human human-like. Hopefully, future books will flesh out the enemy a little better other than just existing. Very accurate with the military culture.

Quite an undead tale

This story has a good cast of characters as well as a highly developed setting. The physical and moral aspects of reanimation have been fleshed out very well, as have the details of the invading ‘Pedes. I look forward to more books in this series although I wouldn’t have felt cheated if this had been a solo title.

Synergy

I enjoyed this synergy of Chaney, Brazee, and Wayne. I will add this series to my list and continue to enjoy wherever it leads.

Finally - Zombies who are not Intent on Eating You

I’m a fan of Mr. Chaney for the most part, and I think he certainly let provided some mighty fine entertainment in this series, as book 2 is downloading. I apologize to the other author, I can’t recall your name but that’s because my mycelia and frontal cortex have been damaged. ;-). Also to the narrator - you did an amazing job and I’ll look for your other work. Not that you’ll see this, but hopefully you’ll get paid.

How they are using slave soldiers

Interesting thought on how they are treating their soldiers as slaves, they don’t have rights at all not even treating them as “ humans” . Just a continued history of the soldiers treated as slaves. They are treated only as chess pieces by leadership!

Space Opera meets the Undead

I loved this series! It's a refreshing twist to your typical undead zombies and alien vs military scene. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about the flesh eating, apocalyptic story line! But don't turn away from this series if that's also your gig because this one was really fun!
