Ce inseamna, de fapt, "Comedii la portile Orientului"? Inseamna mai multe: umor tonic, haz vehement, ochi critic fixat asupra subrezeniilor indigene, verva cotropitoare, limbaj luxuriant si un farmec al rostirii care nu se obtine din dictionare si compendii. Aveti de-a face, asadar, cu un audiobook de gala. Rostul lui e sa ne binedispuna si sa ne reconecteze la literatura pura. Caci dincolo de eventuala lor miza pedagogic-moralizatoare, Comediile asta sunt: bucati sau mai degraba bucate literare, din care nu lipseste nici o mirodenie si care alcatuiesc un ospat de neuitat.

Paris, Cartierul Latin, într-una din mansardele pamântului: istoria otravita a sfîrsitului nostru de mileniu s-a petrecut în afara acestui spatiu nespus de modest, dar abia aici, sub acoperisul de pe strada Odéon 21, s-a nascut opera care avea sa devina constiinta nefericirii noastre. Autorul ei, un Nietzsche contemporan trecut pe la scoala moralistilor francezi, a fost pe rând considerat nihilistul veacului, the king of pessimists, scepticul de serviciu al unei lumi în declin.

Prima poveste e despre o dragoste târzie la Paris. A doua despre îngerii de lângă noi. În cea de-a treia veți simți un puternic miros de terebentină, iar în a patra, parfum de crini regali. A cincea vă aduce în auz un nume care zgârie și unul care mângâie. Prima poveste are miză și pariază pe nenoroc. A doua cade din fantastic în lumea noastră cea de toate zilele. A treia are realism, râs, nerv. A patra inocență, umor, visare. A cincea, cu ironie, face poezie și economie (politică).

Si nu vine singur, aduce cu sine un arhivar devenit celebru cu ocazia unui accident provocat de betie, o guvernanta mototoala care este supusa unui test cinic, un functionar care, impins de aburii betiei, ii cere socoteala fostului sau sef, un batran demn si important nevoit sa solicite ajutor pentru nepotul sau neispravit, un functionar sfrijit care se ploconeste in fata fostului sau coleg, ajuns om mare, o actrita ingenua care asteapta declaratia unui comic sacait insa de lipsa unui pahar de vodca, un contraamiral care este invitat la o nunta doar datorita rangului sau, un croitor care traieste din hazul amintirilor, acceptandu-si resemnat umilinta de dragul lor, un raufacator inocent care nu intelege ce fatalitate l-a adus in sala de judecata.
