About this listen

"The year 1866 was signalised by a remarkable incident, a mysterious and puzzling phenomenon, which doubtless no one has yet forgotten.... For some time past, vessels had been met by 'an enormous thing', a long object, spindle-shaped, occasionally phosphorescent, and infinitely larger and more rapid in its movements than a whale."

When Professor Aronnax agrees to investigate a series of attacks by a mysterious sea monster, he begins an incredible underwater journey that leads him from Atlantis to the South Pole. Through unforeseen dangers, surprise encounters, and exotic settings, this epic adventure is a tour-de-force of imagination and narrative grandeur. Jules Verne was remarkably successful in foretelling the wonders science held for the future. This, his most famous novel, earned him the title of "Father of Science Fiction."

Harlan Ellison brings a classic to life

Harlan Ellison, a personal favorite writer of sci fi, was a perfect fit for this audiobook, with his natural yet mildly frantic way of speaking.

This book, and Harlan Ellison’s reading of it, are masterpieces. If you are reading this then it probably doesn’t even cost you anything to listen. It’s included in an audible subscription. It’s not a long book. Just listen to it. I’m sure you will repeat it again, and again.

Awesome narrator

Harlem Ellison’s over the top narration makes this book much better than it is; classic story nonetheless.

prophetic

Who would have realized the prophecies of Verne would show themselves in acts of "fiction"? This is not Disney. This is genius. Ellison has ever been one of my favorite authors. I'd no idea he could be such a brilliant narrator! Listen to this to awaken your sense of adventure!!
