About this listen

Commonly referred to as the “Twelve and Twelve”, Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions comprises 24 foundational essays by Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder Bill W. that have helped millions of A.A. members worldwide both to get and stay sober “one day at a time”, and to ensure that their "Fellowship" - Alcoholics Anonymous as a whole - will be there for them tomorrow.

First published by Grapevine in 1952, the 12 essays in the book’s opening expand upon each of A.A.’s landmark Twelve Steps - its program of recovery from alcoholism - with practical applications, helpful examples and personal insights, many of which enlarge upon themes raised in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. The second 12 illuminate the Twelve Traditions and explain how spiritual principles such as anonymity, humility and self-support serve to safeguard the unity of Alcoholics Anonymous and shield it from internal and external challenges.

Whether heard at meetings, referred to while working with a sponsor, or turned to in a quiet moment, The Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions can serve as a vital resource for those seeking a deeper understanding of the Steps and Traditions.

Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions has been approved by the General Service Conference.

Great narration. It was wonderful to be able to listen to this tonight instead of having to read it.

Pay no attention to 0 star reviews…

Those that have given a 0 star review obviously don’t understand the purpose of this book. It’s not meant to be inspirational or a complete history of AA. It is a supplement to the Big Book describing the the function and the foundations that have kept AA alive and successful all these years. If U need inspiration, get the Big Book and listen to the testimonials.

Relevant to Everyone

The spiritual principles described in this book are are worthy of anyone's consideration. This is not just for addicts. The 12 traditions are also really interesting because the describe how the community organizes itself, and there are some good guidelines in there.

If directly/indirectly impacted by any addiction

If you or anyone you care for suffers from any addiction disease, you may find this book helpful. I am uncomfortable with the dated language; many of the wordings do not match how I express what I believe is the thought behind the wording. That said, I still find this work 100% relevant.

Good reference

I read this book because my husband just entered rehab. He is in for drug but the same principles apply. It was interesting to here and learn about the steps and experiences that anonymous members went through. It was helpful.
If you are the person going through addiction then the traditions is very helpful to understand.
if you are reading this because of a loved one, the traditions however interesting is not very helpful.
-side note, it confused me if AAA and 12 steps are no suppose to take money , then I believe this book should be free to all. Educational and does a lot of good.
- good mix of voices and easy to follow .
