Story
Edgar Cayce Jr., born in 1877 in rural Kentucky and educated only through the eighth grade, was a man with special powers. Known as the "sleeping prophet," Cayce was an endless source of information. Awake, he had no knowledge of any of the subjects he discussed, but in a trance he prescribed medical treatments, predicted future world events, interpreted past lives, designed innovative technologies, wrote screenplays, spoke in foreign languages, and brought spiritual messages from the "other side." Sidney Kirkpatrick has written a fascinating, definitive biography.

Scientology, created in 1954 by a prolific sci-fi writer named L. Ron Hubbard, claims to be the world's fastest-growing religion, with millions of members around the world and huge financial holdings. Its celebrity believers keep its profile high, and its teams of "volunteer ministers" offer aid at disaster sites such as Haiti and the World Trade Center. But Scientology is also a notably closed faith, harassing journalists and others through litigation and intimidation, even infiltrating the highest levels of government to further its goals.

To Love and Be Loved is a firsthand account of Mother Teresa’s last years, and the first book ever to detail her dealings with worldly matters. We see her gracefully navigate the opportunities and challenges of leadership, the perils of celebrity, and the humiliations and triumphs of aging. We also catch her indulging in chocolate ice cream, making jokes about mini-skirts, and telling the president of the United States he’s wrong. Above all, we see her extraordinary devotion to God and to the very poorest of His children.

This is the most detailed rendition of Cayce"s life's work I've ever heard. I have known of the sleeping prophet for over 50 years now and have never tried of his story. Interesting information on Edgar Cayce and people
I really enjoyed listening to this biography and especially liked how it tied into events in American history. The network of people and events are nicely brought together along with what Edgar Cayce brought out in his work to help people. The story is told in such an interesting way that I couldn't wait to get back to the audio book.

Enlightening
At first, I thought this book was a rehash of There Is A River by Thomas Sugrue, but about halfway through it became very interesting and unique. There are more readings in this volume. And there is a more balanced backward view of what went wrong with the first hospital. And also, more detail into Cayce's life after he embraced his psychic abilities. He had many interesting encounters throughout his life that were left out of the Sugrue's book. There is also a more in depth look at what exactly the readings told Cayce to do in order to keep his health up and more detail around the times he ignored his own readings.
It was obvious Cayce put his own health in peril because he felt so compelled to help as many others as he possibly could. He sounds like a wonderful human being and a truly gentle soul who wanted to do his best for others in his time here. In fact, I want to learn more about him and his work and, after reading another reviewer's comments, joined the A.R.E.
Scott Pollak does an excellent narration of great material and I enjoyed listening to this audiobook.

Very good
I enjoy the many a.r.e. audio books, but a few are badly edited. this one is very well done. no double read sentances, no stumbling over words, and it elaborates on subjects that were only touched on in the other books. I have listened to this book at least 5 times start to finish, and will likely do it again soon.
