About this listen

As former D.C cop Mace Perry investigates a mysterious high-profile homicide in a last-ditch attempt to get her badge back, she finds herself on a collision course with the dark side of national security in this New York Times best seller.

Mason "Mace" Perry was a firebrand cop on the D.C. police force until she was kidnapped and framed for a crime - and then spent two years in prison. Now she's back on the outside and focused on one mission: to be a cop once more. Her only shot to be a true blue again is to solve a major case on her own. But even with her police chief sister on her side, she'll have to work in the shadows: A vindictive U.S. attorney will stop at nothing to send Mace back to jail. Enter Roy Kingman....

A young D.C. lawyer, Roy meets Mace after the murder of one of the firm's female partners. Soon Roy and Mace are investigating together - and uncovering surprising secrets from both the private and public sectors of the nation's capital.

Baldacci has pulled it off again!

How does he keep doing it? Once again, David Baldacci has given us another wonderful thriller set in Washington, D.C. He clearly knows the place and the political shenanigans taking place therein. This time he has created a believable female protagonist. Although sometimes I don't buy the female protagonists that male authors create -- they often try to attribute male sex drive to them -- in this case I liked Mace Perry and her sister Beth, even though they manifest as tough women operating in a man's world. Mace can kick butt better than any of the male characters! "True Blue" has everything a good story should have: complexity, good side plots, human interest, and character development. The golden voice of Ron McLarty alone almost justifies listening to "True Blue," although this time I noticed that he doesn't do quite as good a job of vocally distinguishing some of the characters as he usually does. All the same, if you like thrillers, you will enjoy this audiobook.

very silly but kind of fun

As long as you are willing to completely relax your standards of plausibility (and don't compare too closely to earlier books of Baldacci) this book is entertaining. Rather like a preposterous summer movie thriller. Cartoonish characters, ridiculous circumstances, but it moves right along.

Great story, keeping the reader engaged to the end

David Baldacci is always a good read in my opinion. The story was engaging and held my interests all the way to the end, There was no guessing the ending as there are many twists and turns through the story.

What a great Book

I am a big Baldacci fan. This book is great and seems like the begining of a great series. This is well worth the credit.

Love Baldacci!

And this book’s story was good. But I must advise on one thing. It has racist leanings. It paints the same old tired picture of black girls who are pregnant at 13 and the “projects” are run by gangsters and one good back woman who rules them all. As we are all learning in the last year, this is NOT the plight of ALL blacks. Most are church going, family living and honest people. It is like painting a picture of all whites living in run down trailer parks, having babies at 13 and cooking meth. We need to see more of the true picture than the same tired stories of East LA or Harlem or South DC. It is an older book of his so I didn’t give it one star. Baldacci is a wonderful story teller!!

I Agree, A Dissappointment

I do think Baldacci has been putting out dissappointing stories lately. He is polific in the amount he writes, maybe he needs to slow down on quantity in order to improve on quality. All of the other reviewers have said it well. There are good and bad to the story. I did finish it, because I felt my respect to Baldacci deserved it. And that wasn't totally intolerable. That was in large part because I do enjoy McLarty as a narrator. But as others have said, most of the story line was unbeleiveable and inconsistent. His attempt in having strong female central characters was not successful.

Every writer is entitled to at least one stinker

Nothing in this story was remotely believable. I love female heroines but Mason simply isn't it. She is unlikable
