About this listen

The second thrilling mystery in an exciting new generation of Pitt novels, from the New York Times best-selling author and queen of Victorian crime, Anne Perry.

"Anne Perry's Victorian mysteries are marvels of plot construction" (New York Times).

Daniel Pitt is delighted that his sister is visiting London with her American husband Patrick, a policeman, and their young daughter. But Patrick's trip has another purpose, for which he enlists Daniel's help. Philip Sydney, a young British diplomat, is accused of robbery and assault in Washington, but he has taken diplomatic immunity and fled to England. The perfect opportunity to obtain justice presents itself when Sydney is accused of a small embezzlement at the British Embassy in the USA, but as Daniel digs deeper into the case it becomes clear that vengeance is involved.

When a witness is murdered in America suspicion of guilt falls on Sydney. But is somebody trying to frame him? And, if so, who and why? Daniel follows a trail that uncovers another murder, and leads from Washington to the idyllic Channel Islands, then to a dramatic scene in court that almost defies belief....

New Daniel Pitt series

The story was a little slow to start, but became quite interesting about half way through - worth reading.

I am used Davina Porter narrating the Thomas Pitt series. While Samuel Roukin has great skill with simulating American and American-Irish accents, he doesn’t act out the parts as well as Ms. Porter.

Captivating story with an enjoyable narration.

One of my favorite Anne Perry series. Triple Jeopardy has many twists and turns that keeps you guessing. The narration is excellent, done with character that adds to the story.

It was exciting watching Daniel figure it out! Of course, with the help of his friends

I’m not sure I disliked anything except maybe Daniel’s lack of confidence. I know he’s new at being a lawyer but let’s face it, he grew up with Thomas and Charlotte and we all know how they solved some very twisted mystery’s.

Very good but not great

First the positive: excellent narration. Pleasing voice. Good characterizations. Made me feel that I could easily visualize the settings.
Secondly, I don’t really have any true negatives. I thought there was a bit too much redundancy in the descriptions of the situations, and I would have liked a less abrupt ending. I thought a few loose ends could have been tied up. All that being said, I enjoy Ann Perry’s books and will await the next Daniel Pitt story.

Love this

Ann Perry hides the truth until the very end. I don’t like how sudden the end comes

Deftly Done

If you are a fan of puzzle mysteries, Anne Perry does not disappoint. She stands alone in blending Jane Austen's comedies of manners with Agatha Christie's cozy puzzles. The result is a story with a keen perspective into ordinary and extraordinary motives of humans. Always surprising, in places brutally honest. The loves and losses come to life on the page, and only by paying the closest attention to detail can a reader guess the outcome.

Daniel Pitt is a character worthy of his famous parents. Miriam fford Croft is a woman to be loved, respected, admired. Jemima and Patrick are a couple as deeply in love as Charlotte and Thomas. And thanks to twists and turns, I wondered right up to the end if Philip Sydney was actually guilty. I bet correctly when I guessed the ending, but I was never sure until Daniel asked the right question of the witness on the stand. Well plotted and well characterized, this story is a classic.

Awesome!

Wow. Even better than the first! Daniel is evolving into a lawyer not to be taken lightly!

It was great for Gemima and her husband Patrick to come home from America and find out what has been happening in their lives!

Intricately woven murder and suspense and with a narrator I can listen to forever!!! Brilliant!

It was enjoyable.

Usually a reader/performer uses different voices for the different characters. There were times listening to this book where I had no idea who was talking because the characters all sounded so similar. Otherwise it was a good story.
