About this listen

Travel is the opposite of prejudice; it is curiosity, openness and connection. When our world is in flux, travel matters more than ever. It is the only way to go beyond the narratives that are fed to us, and understand the world through your own experience.

Understanding does not automatically come from travel. You have to work for it. And, with barriers and restrictions coming and going at a dizzying rate, now is the time to learn how to eke the most out of whatever travel opportunities we are able to seize. Travel Your Way is your guide to going beyond the narratives fed to us and experiencing the world directly. Inside, you’ll find practical techniques for breaking out of your comfort zone, smashing the language barrier, dodging the tourist trail, and understanding the real story of everywhere you go.

Whether you’re stuck at home, dashing off on a business trip, or slinging your backpack over your shoulders for a year of intrepid wandering, Travel Your Way will help you rediscover the world on your own terms.

Really enjoyable

As a long term traveler and digital nomad, I really enjoyed this book. Especially the stories about Iran and Georgia. Also liked the practical advice to get out of my comfort zone.

A thoughtful exploration of why we travel

I love travel which has made the last couple of years particularly tough! While things seem to be getting better, one lesson to take away is to take travel seriously (while still having fun) and get the most out of every trip we can take. I am looking forward to using the techniques in this book (explained in "Travel Practice" sections at the end of each chapter) to help me better connect with locals and get out of the tourist bubble on my next trip.

Don’t just see the world, understand it.

Travel is once again coming back within easy reach of many people. This time, let's not take it for granted! I enjoyed listening to Travel Your Way because I learned how to put a place in context by understanding a little more about its history and culture, and by putting myself in the shoes of the locals. It's a fun listen with plenty of stories from the author's travels in places like Iran, China and Eastern Europe.

I'm confused..

Isn't this book supposed to be about travel? I understand the need to understand the history of the places you are traveling, but I didn't get this book for that. I couldn't get past the 2nd chapter.
I also usually love it when the author reads his own book, but the fast paced monotone reading about the deep history of a place lost me.
