In book two of the Colony Ship Trailblazer series, the adventurers from Dome 17 on the dying Earth are on the old colony ship, but things have not gone as planned.
They receive an urgent summons from some unknown entity, proclaiming, “There is a major crisis! People in danger. I need your help to avert a tragedy! There is a major crisis! People in danger. I need your help to avert a tragedy!”
Janae and Ken reluctantly answer that call, but what awaits as they venture into some of the unknown reaches of the Trailblazer? What is the nature of the crisis? What people are in danger? And who sent them the message and why?
Just exactly what will be revealed as the Tragedy on the Trailblazer?

I'm starting this series with book 2, so it did take me a bit to get into things. That being said, I found I really enjoyed to book. The narration was decent, and had decent sound quality. It could have been a little cleaner, but I've definitely been subjected to worse. Once I got into the story, I found I quite enjoyed it. So, it would probably be better to start with book 1, but, if you don't, stick with it, I think you'll still enjoy the book.
A decent sci fi story

I previously listened to Tracking the Trailblazer, and admit I did not give it the greatest of reviews. I find Janae to be an extremely abrasive, unlikable character. If I had not listened to Exploring the Colony Ship first, I think Tracking the Trailblazer would've been the first and last of his books. So, having listen to one book I liked and one I did not, I decided to listen to Quest for the Conestoga (I enjoyed it) and that convinced me to give this book a try.
Tragedy on the Trailblazer continues the story of Janae and Ken. They receive a message via a robot, from an unknown entity, and follow this robot through the Trailblazer to one of the bio domes. They get swept up in a mysterious event and are expected to take charge. This book does leave us hanging at the end, we learn that what Ken and Jenae have been through so far is not the entire "tragedy".
I still do not like the character Jenae . I have a hard time listening to the sections when she is speaking without wanting to yell out "oh, grow up and stop being such a ______, if you would be quiet, maybe you would learn something!" . I guess that just shows good writing. If the author can write other books in the series and other characters that I enjoy but have me despise Jenae, I guess that's pretty good.
Despite realizing I will have to listen to Jenae, I look forward to the next Trailblazer story to find out more of this mystery.
There is not any explicit violence or sex or swearing in this book.
The narrator did a good job on this book. Her voice for Jenae only added to my dislike of the character since she did well in bringing out Jenae's abrasive, short temperament.

The quality of this story's content is fair. However, it is mostly told only from Janae or Ken's perspective and moves from beginning to end along a single linear line. The character, Janae, seems to me to be very over-reactive and quick to anger. Neither Janae nor Ken appear to be even remotely open-minded or dignified when the locals present their native foods and delicacies. Narration, too, is fair, with only a few word mispronounciations. My suggestion to the narrator is to not actually yell when a yell is encountered in the text. Overall, the story and performance are not bad. I was adequately entertained and plan to read/listen to the next installment in the series.
