About this listen

A sharp Christian voice makes a bold argument: when politics are driven by empathy rather than truth, innocent people pay the price.

We are told that empathy is the highest virtue—the key to being a good person. Is that true? Or has “empathy,” like so many other words of our day—“tolerance,” “justice,” “acceptance”—been hijacked by bad actors who exploit compassion for their own political ends?

In Toxic Empathy, Allie Beth Stuckey argues that empathy has become a tool of manipulation by left-wing activists who bully people into believing that they must adopt progressive positions to be loving. She explores the five most heated issues through which toxic empathy is deployed: abortion, gender, sexuality, immigration, and social justice. Progressives use catchy mantras to present their perspective as empathetic, like “abortion is healthcare,” “love is love,” or “no human being is illegal,” but in each case, they ignore the other side of the moral equation. For example, abortion is presented as compassionate for the woman, but what about the human life the procedure kills?

This book isn’t about killing empathy; it’s about submitting our empathy to God’s definitions of love, goodness, and justice. Stuckey exposes the logical pitfalls and moral consequences of toxic empathy, equipping Christians with research-backed, Biblical truths to dismantle the progressive lies that have permeated our culture—and our church.

Critic reviews

“Most lies are wrapped in partial truths, often conveyed through heartbreaking stories. In Toxic Empathy, Allie Beth shares poignant thoughts from diverse viewpoints, offering insight as to why people (and even Christians) come to such different conclusions. Using scripture, reason, and reality, Stuckey advocates for the conservative position while still acknowledging where progressives are coming from.”—Hillary Morgan Ferrer, bestselling author of Mama Bear Apologetics

"Toxic Empathy exposes how unsuspecting Christians play into Satan’s plot to pit compassion against the truth—as though we can be more merciful than God. Allie Beth exposes that Satan’s ploy is to hamstring Christians to believe that empathy—standing in the shoes of someone else—is the highest expression of love. She addresses five lies of our age, illustrating Christian wisdom and compassion as she exposes what Satan wants to conceal. Every page is a lifeline of sanity, common sense, Christian wisdom, and gospel evangelism. A brilliant book every Christian should read.”—Rosaria Butterfield, bestselling author of The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert

“As a woman passionately committed to defending the most vulnerable, I can’t recommend this book highly enough. Give it to the high schoolers in your life. It will both alert them to the manipulative tactics routinely brandished against good-hearted people as well as make them experts who can stand firm on behalf of the least of these.”—Katy Faust, founder of Them Before Us

Perfect Timing

Another excellent book by Allie. Timing couldn’t be more perfect. In a world where we are told to empathize with every single feeling, the world has taken it too far. Allie does an excellent job breaking down how that is toxic and how we are called for more.

Solid

Grateful for Allie Beth Stuckey's bold stance and the references to her solid foundation. Although I am more accustomed to hearing her speak more conversationally, her narration was still pleasant and enjoyable (although it was clear she was reading her work).

I already liked her

I love the way she laid out her arguments. So clear and concise, illustrating that empathy alone is not a virtue, but requires truth as well.

Such a helpful book!

Allie put into words many of the thoughts I had floating around in my head about these subjects! The clarity of how to deal with these topics biblically and the historical backgrounds of the progressive ideologies is exactly what I was hoping for to help me navigate this mess as I talk with friends. I don’t remember the last time I made it through a book this quickly!

A must listen to!

I love how Ms Stuckey elaborates in such important truths, aligning each agenda with the biblical world view. These truths are self evident and much needed for human survival. Empathy is coming along side someone in help, feeling what they feel but having to help even if it hurts. Because thats where the healing comes in! Thank you so much for writing this book!

Must read for ALL Christians

There are so many lies being shoved at Christian's to shame us into making bad choices... unbiblical choices about issues in our society. This book is brilliantly researched and written to teach us what the Bible really says on these issues. Just read the book... or in this case, listen to it.

The God of Self

Toxic Empathy allows Christians to participate in or affirm pagan worship of the god of self. Politics matter because policies matter because people matter. People matter, all people, and polices driven by political ideas as they naturally do, they matter. Christian, if you call yourself one, you need to have this awareness. Everyone supports or disapproves of any policies based on their worldview, which comes from their religion, lack of religion, faith, lack of faith, culture, and so much more. Everyone including Christians are allowed to vote with their worldview in mind, because everyone else does. There is no empathy for the Christian worldview, only in other worldviews will western societies have empathy for that worldview and policies that reflect those views.
