About this listen

A missing Chinese scientist, unexplained noises emanating from under the Arctic ice, and a possible mole in American intelligence are just some of the problems that plague President Jack Ryan in the latest entry in Tom Clancy's number-one New York Times best-selling series.

Aboard an icebreaker in the Arctic Ocean, a sonar operator hears an unusual noise coming from the ocean floor. She can't isolate it and chalks the event up to an anomaly in a newly installed system. Meanwhile, operatives with the Chinese Ministry of State Security are dealing with their own mystery - the disappearance of brilliant but eccentric scientist, Liu Wangshu. They're desperate to keep his crucial knowledge of aerospace and naval technology out of their rivals' hands.

Finding Liu is too great an opportunity for any intelligence service to pass up, but there's one more problem. A high-level Chinese mole, codenamed Surveyor, has managed to infiltrate American intelligence. President Jack Ryan has only one choice: Send John Clark and his Campus team deep into China to find an old graduate student of the professor's who may hold the key to his whereabouts. It's a dangerous gamble, but with John Clark holding the cards, Jack Ryan is all in.

Not his best book

I found the book a bit complicated, too many catastrophes at one time. Could have used some comic relief.

A Good Listen

I enjoyed listening to this book. The story is what you would expect from a Clancy inspired novel. The narrator was excellent.

Jack Ryan saga continues

A good tale from the series. Enjoyed it and the focus on China and not Russia for a change. A good Spy Thriller.

Top notch political triller

Well crafted spy tales. Complex story brought to a satisfying conclusion. Stick with it.

Mislabeled

On the cover page it lists this book as, “A Jack Ryan novel.” It should definitely be a Jack Ryan Jr novel. The beginning starts out with Senior but ends with Jr as the main character being discussed. This was definitely one of my least favorite newer Jack Ryan-verse novels. Plot is slower than usual and mainly pretty pointless. There is the typical 10-12 hour build up of unstoppable forces with the standard “save-the-day” 30 min-1 hr wrap-up. Just an ok listen.

Great but short

Typical Tom Clancy action/thriller. Wish it had been longer. Otherwise good read. Recommended at one credit. Wouldn’t spend $20 for it.

good book

Characters got a little confusing but good book overall. Might have been easier to follow if I listened to the book over a shorter span of time or wrote notes on the variou characters.
