Publisher's summary

In this previously untold adventure, a young Jack Ryan goes behind the Iron Curtain to seek the truth about a potential Soviet defector in the most shocking entry in Tom Clancy's #1 New York Times bestselling series.

1985

A top secret F117 aircraft crashes into the Nevada desert. The Nighthawk is the most advanced fighting machine in the world and the Soviets will do anything to get their hands on its secrets.

In East Berlin, a mysterious figure contacts the CIA with an incredible offer—invaluable details of his government’s espionage plans in return for asylum.

It’s an offer they can’t pass up…if it’s genuine, but the risks are too great to blindly stumble into a deal. With the East German secret police closing in, someone will have to go to behind the Berlin Wall to investigate the potential defector. It’s a job Deputy Director James Greer can only trust to one man—Jack Ryan.

Ryan is a former Marine and a brilliant CIA analyst who’s been the architect of some of the CIA’s biggest coups but this time he’s in enemy territory with a professional assassin on his tail. Can he get the right answers before the Cold War turns into a Red Winter?

One of the best Jack Ryan novels!

What a great idea to go back to the Cold War and weave together an incredible thriller of all our favorite characters in their youth. Thank you, Marc Cameron!

Great revisit to the original timeframe and character.

Marc does a masterful job of bringing back the old Jack Ryan Cold Ward story. Well worth the listen. Scott Brick nails as usual.

feels like the old clancy

nothing beats the early Clany books, but this is the closest in many years replicating the intricacies of Tom Clanies story telling ability.

Much better than the last couple books

Very enjoyable - well worth a credit and the time to listen to it.

This is old school tom clancy - not jack jr meets clive cussler looking for a girlfriend.

Best Clancy book since he died

This is the best Tom Clancy book written by someone other than Clancy himself. It’s a “throwback” to 1985 in divided Germany and is very good. The best Clancy characters are in it and they are in their prime.
Hopefully Marc Cameron writes more with the “original” Jack Ryan

Marc Cameron knocked it out of the park

I love that they have decided to go back and fill in gaps in the stories while keeping true to the legacy novels. I hope they do more of these books as there are so more stories that can be told. If I could give it 6 stars I would.
