Publisher's summary

The eighth gripping adventure in David Gilman's critically acclaimed Master of War series set in fourteenth-century Europe.

Bordeaux, 1367. Having angered the bloodthirsty Don Pedro, King of Castile, Sir Thomas Blackstone is thoroughly sick of his mission for the Prince of Wales, but must remain true to his oath.

But this is the Hundred Years' War, and tensions are rising once more. With the Prince of Wales deeply unpopular in his Aquitanian lands, Blackstone, King Edward's Master of War, must return to French soil to help stem the tide of support for the King of France.

Meanwhile, Henry, Blackstone's son, faces an incognito ride across France with his own motley band of outlaws and mercenaries. But the French are aware of the younger Blackstone's journey, and see a perfect way to target the Master of War.

Another amazing Blackstone story

Another amazing book from David Gillman and fantastically narrated. My dog got a lot of extra walks so I could keep listening. Please keep these books coming!

wow

I have waited until I finished the entire series or at least what's avaliable, before reviewing it. All I can say is wow. The adventures of The Blackstones has been the best rollercoaster I've ever experienced. The depth of historical research that went into them is breath taking in its throughness and the weaving in of the fictional story was masterfully done.

Winning Capstone to the Series

These books got better with each installment, and though this one had perhaps less action and adventure than some others, it was a great lot of fun. I've been without these characters for a couple years now, it seems, so it was nice to hear from them again. The ending was perfect. It felt as if the author couldn't let him go, couldn't deal with the prospect of never writing him again, so he left an ellipsis. Gildart Jackson is the only narrator for these characters, so it was so exciting to see him come back to do this last one.

I can’t wait for the next book.

I get totally immersed in the story. You can almost taste the smoke in the air. Can’t wait for the next installment of this series.

Blackstones Son gets stuck in

it nice to see after many books a fresh perspective with Henry Blackstone having his problems and getting through some of them on his own contrasted with Thomas Blackstone at the highest levels of danger and intreague. The two men lead very different lives and seeing how the older Blackstones actions ripple out and are seen and heard by others even his bookish clerical lawyer of a son is a fun take filled with trouble. The apple must not fall far from the tree because in no time at all Henry gets into a serious altercation with a man over claims about his father then has to flee and makes a blood enemy out of a famous and legendary master swordsman and this before his first real battle! Great book, some of the scenes or chapters can be frustrating because they are slow but not everything can involve swords and Calvary charges it's worth it to see the whole picture.

Still love Blackstone

Previous to this book it felt as though Gilman was wrapping things up. We have at least one more coming.

character development.

I am a big fan of this series. I love the characters and how they interact with each other. this installment is action packed and tons of fun just like all the other master of war books. the story is fairly predictable but that isn't always a bad thing.
