Faith. Trust. Triumph.

"I trust Roselle with my life, every day. She trusts me to direct her. And today is no different, except the stakes are higher." - Michael Hingson

First came the boom - the loud, deep, unapologetic bellow that seemed to erupt from the very core of the Earth. Eerily, the majestic high-rise slowly leaned to the south. On the 78th floor of the World Trade Center's north tower, no alarms sounded, and no one had information about what had happened at 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2001 - what should have been a normal workday for thousands of people. All that was known to the people inside was what they could see out the windows: smoke and fire and millions of pieces of burning paper and other debris falling through the air.

Blind since birth, Michael couldn't see a thing, but he could hear the sounds of shattering glass, falling debris, and terrified people flooding around him and his guide dog, Roselle. However, Roselle sat calmly beside him. In that moment, Michael chose to trust Roselle's judgment and not to panic. They are a team.

Thunder Dog allows you entry into the isolated, fume-filled chamber of stairwell B to experience survival through the eyes of a blind man and his beloved guide dog. Live each moment from the second a Boeing 767 hits the north tower, to the harrowing stairwell escape, to dodging death a second time as both towers fold into the earth.

It's the 9/11 story that will forever change your spirit and your perspective. Thunder Dog illuminates Hingson's lifelong determination to achieve parity in a sighted world, and how the rare trust between a man and his guide dog can inspire an unshakable faith in each one of us.

Amazing Man, Amazing Dog!

Michael Hingson is such an Inspiration to us all. I now have a much better Insight into what the World to a Blind person is like. His Accomplishments are truly Incredible! Roselle is such a Loyal and Dedicated Guide Dog. She and Michael’s lives are Intertwined and they share an Unbreakable Bond of Love and Loyalty to each other. Thank you to all of the Blind Dog Organizations out there that work Tirelessly to Train these Animals to make such a Difference in the Lives of those who have some form of Disability and simply need a Companion to help them Navigate the everyday tasks that most of us take for granted. Thank you Michael for sharing not only your Life but the Life of such a Special Dog as Roselle!

Such a great story!

I could not stop listening to Michael’s story, it was so emotionally positive and heart warming! I am a lover of yellow labs, having 4during the last 30 or so years and currently best friends with Charlie Girl, I think of Roselle and I would have to dry my eyes from tearing up. Micheal you are an inspiration and you taught me so much about blindness, thank you! Stay well!

Don’t miss reading this book!

Thunder Dog is a story of a man who is blind and his Guide Dog, Roselle, who traveled together down 78 flights of steps on 9-11.
It is also so much more! The fascinating story of a boy growing up blind, it is also a journey into the attitude and prejudices that surround “being blind” - those prejudices and attitudes being the real disability that people without visual sight face. It is a dynamic and inspiring story, a sometimes funny tale but it is also informative and well written! Not a word of his story is wasted! Michael Hingson, with the help of Susy Flory, has written a phenomenal book

A very worthwhile read.

Enjoyable, inspiring, educational. Michael's experiences and attitudes as a blind person are inspirational. Balanced with enough real life emotion and honesty as well as factual information. Have to say it, it was "eye opening".

Touching, informative, and from the heart!

I liked the chatty style. I felt I was there with him during his Journey down those stairs. At times I was smiling, at other times I was crying. I highly recommend this book. It was an excellent read. The narrator was excellent also.

Nice example for Blind advocacy

I enjoyed learning more about Michael’s early childhood years as there are few books about blind individuals who are blind from birth.
