Acerca de esta escucha

It is 1941, and America teeters on the brink of war. Outgoing naval officer Ensign Jim Avery escorts British convoys across the North Atlantic in a brand-new destroyer, the USS Atwood. Back on shore, Boston Navy Yard secretary Mary Stirling does her work quietly and efficiently, happy to be out of the limelight.

Yet, despite her reserved nature, she never could back down from a challenge. When evidence of sabotage on the Atwood is found, Jim and Mary must work together to uncover the culprit. A bewildering maze of suspects emerges, and Mary is dismayed to find that even someone close to her is under suspicion. With the increasing pressure, Jim and Mary find that many new challenges—and dangers—await them.

Sarah Sundin takes listeners to the tense months before the US entered WWII. Listeners will encounter German U-boats and torpedoes, along with the explosive power of true love, in this hopeful and romantic story.

Sarah Sundin is one of my favorite WW2 authors. This book is the first in a series about the navy during WW2. It begins before the war in the U.S. shipyards and with the lend lease program. Mary and Jim each have challenges and weaknesses they need to work on separately and together.

About the little known Battle of the Atlantic

I have tried to listen to this book multiple times. I usually love Sarah Sundin’s books, but I have had a very difficult time concentrating on the storyline because the narrator is so distracting with her narration of male voices. I’m not really sure how to describe the aspects of this, but she doesn’t read in a way that flows and the male voices are very obviously off. I really wanted to give this book a chance, but after a couple of hours of trying, I am considering returning the title.

Love Sarah Sundin….Not the Narrator

Love the story! Always appreciate how Sarah’s characters grow in the Lord separately but in the end the characters grow closer together with the Lord at the center. Narrator did her best but not the most engaging narrative.

Always a good story with Sarah Sundin

Sweet, realistic and a wonderful story of God’s love without skimming over the hard things in life

Wonderful

It is refreshing having books not afraid to show an example of how God works out things in our life.

God's enduring love example

I’m not a fan of some of the voices from this narrator. The story had some good parts but some of it was not that engaging and I finally just forwarded to the end. I like this author but this wasn’t my favorite.

I love Sarah’s writing, but I just couldn’t get past the narrator. Normally I don’t leave reviews, but this was pretty rough. I reluctantly had to call it quits just a few chapters in… even the main character’s voice/cadence was difficult to listen to (grating and oddly slow and breathy with a strange cadence… I don’t really know how to describe it). And don’t even get me started on the male characters’ voices. Or anyone with an accent. Very distracting from the actual story. I’ll get this book on kindle

Couldn’t get past the performance
