About this listen

After the unexpected death of her father, college student Jane Sharp longs for a distraction from her grief. She becomes obsessed with true crime, befriending armchair detectives who teach her how to hunt killers from afar. In this morbid internet underground, Jane finds friendship, purpose, and even glory . . .

So when news of the shocking deaths of three college girls in Delphine, Idaho, takes the world by storm, and sleuths everywhere race to solve the crimes, Jane and her friends are determined to beat them. But the case turns out to be stranger than anyone expected. Details don't add up, the police are cagey, and there seems to be more media hype and internet theorizing than actual evidence. When Jane and her sleuths take a step closer, they find that every answer only begs more questions, and begin to suspect their killer may be smarter and more prolific than any they've faced before. Placing themselves in the center of the story starts to feel more and more like walking into a trap . . .

Told one year after the astounding events that concluded the case and left the world reeling, when Jane has finally decided to break her silence about what really happened, she tells the true story of the Delphine Massacres. And what she has to confess will shock even the most seasoned true crime fans . . .

Absolutely loved it!

This book kept my attention from the very beginning. I certainly did not figure out who the suspect(s) was. I loved all the characters and the references and ties to modern-day internet sleuthing. My favorite of her books so far!

Little Creativity

Thrillers are my favorite genre, so I was really excited to dive into this book. However, as soon as I began reading, I immediately noticed striking similarities to a real crime that took place in Idaho just a few years ago. It felt like the author relied heavily on the real-life case, borrowing many specific details with very little original creativity. While the story eventually takes a different twist, so much of the plot felt lifted from true events that it came across as disrespectful and unoriginal. I was hoping for a fresh, inventive thriller—but this one left me disappointed.

Long-winded but worth it

At times, I felt myself losing concentration so I would stop the book and go back to it later. As I got further into the book, the story speeds up and takes a different path and kept me on edge! In the end, I was absolutely in awe of this book and would recommend to anyone! It’s a great read with a fantastic ending! Enjoy!

Worth it

If you’re a fan of longer books, this one delivers. The character development leaves you engaged in each one. Albeit at times unrealistic, the plot line is well developed and far from rushed. I would almost certainly read/listen to this one again.

great story with well thought out twists and turns. I do recommend this book

I felt the narration was a little over dramatic at times. I do recommend this book otherwise

Disappointing

I did not like the similarities to real life cases but I also did not like the swerve into a stupid, unrealistic plot.

Truly awful capitalization on true story. Truly awful writing.

It was unnecessary to use the Moscow Murders as a springboard for the author's processing her father death. Its an ongoing case.

tacky

This story is partially "ripped from the headlines". It shamelessly steals from the real life Idaho College student murders. There is also a very thinly veiled clone of Nancy Grace, named Nina Grace. I found it in very poor taste and would not recommend it. The narration is not great either.
