About this listen

Horatio Alger was a 19th-century American author who wrote over 100 novels. Many of his works have been called "rags to riches" stories, describing how down-and-out boys achieve the American Dream of wealth and success through hard work, courage, determination, and concern for others. Because of this Alger is a a significant figure in the history of American cultural and social ideals. Put away your cynicism, dust off your sense of adventure and follow Tom on his perilous journey across the country as he seeks to make his fortune and save the family farm.Public Domain (P)2009 Jimcin Recordings Classics Fiction Adventure Inspiring Dream

Dignity of a Young Man

As Thomas Nelson makes his way to California during the "Gold rush" he faces lesson on how to conduct one self on the independent journey. In the process he meets vagabonds, adventurers, gentlemen and foriegners alike.

Horacio Alger writes with a divine respect for life. The hero is sometimes niave, but is open for correction and advice from kind people who teach him common sense practices most people in todays society would be encouraged to adhere to. Some common themes are do unto others as you would have do unto you. Or having a greatful heart. The best one is you don't always have to be rewarded when you practice at least both of these attributes.
Lastly, this adventure finishes with a I hope a new one beginning? The need to search out the next episode is hardpressed on my mind, if anyone knows what it is I will be grateful for the title.
