I really enjoyed this book because it gave wisdom on believing in the power that we each hold inside. The ideas can be useful for anyone who resonates with the natural world. I like the message that we all need to pitch in to create a better world. It is a beautiful book full of stories that is very interesting and the narrator's voice is calming.

I listened while I painted a wall mural for the city. I was happy to listen numerous times and gleaned something new each time. It's a wonderful book. I had many interesting experiences after reading it as well. I am putting it on my short list of memorable books which changed me in a new way.

An understandable presentation of shamanic traditions presented from personal experience. Enjoyed the cross cultural aspects of comparison between Asian and Andean traditions. A few plugs for the authors other books are included. The book is well read, easy to listen to a chapter while on a walk.

This book is a good companion book to the online class: The way of the Shaman offered by the Four Winds Society.

I’ve been following the techniques in this book since taking that online class last year. I encourage everyone to read this book and do the exercises. Make sure you take fire precautions.

This has harbored me to follow the Munay Ki path. I feel my life will be radically changed after absorbing these practices.

The Shamanic World View

The first half of this book really lays the foundation and truly, deeply connected with me as someone who was also raised Catholic. I started on my journey 20 years ago when I was about 12 years of age, beginning with kundalini meditations, and discovering Carlos Casteneda, of all authors. Although years would pass before I found out Casteneda was a fraud, I began at that age reading everything I could, albeit in secret, about the world's indigenous cultures and their sacred practices. I've had so many books stolen from me by family members claiming demons in my things - it took me a long time to forgive them - but here I am years later a father and husband and I even spent 6.5 years of my life as the thrice-weekly choir director of a Catholic church just 30 minutes north of my old home... all while nurturing my body, mind, and spirit with Shamanism and QiGong.
I've read and been exposed to a lot of garbage, and I mean A LOT... so much so that I've distanced myself from many of the people who would otherwise have encouraged the shamanic path, simply because I knew I needed to work on myself and wasn't wise enough to guide someone who might have been somewhat on the right track but, at least from my perspective, seemed misguided or over-politicized. Instead, I choose for the longest time to keep my beliefs to myself and try to assist my mother and grandparents in opening their hearts to peoples of all cultures through the lens of Catholicism, of which they were familiar, before their eventual passing. Now that I am no longer bound to dancing around their dogma to gain influence, I feel much more open to speak truthfully and without reserve.
I say all these things because there has yet to be another author that has connected to me and my own personal experience like Dr. Alberto Villoldo. His words have ring true to every meditation and experience with the psychedelic plant medicines I've ever been blessed to bear witness to. I'd hate to say that no other author comes close, but I have yet to read them, and honestly don't feel a need to. What I've gained through reading his books and participating in the ceremonies he presents is a much more grounded sense of being.
The pitfalls and blessings he speaks of in this and his other books are very much on point and we would all be wise to open our hearts to it.
