About this listen

Crispin Flynn has been on a downward spiral ever since he lost the woman he loved and watched his brother forced into a life he never would have chosen. His response has been drinking and gambling his way to utter ruin. One night, deep in his cups, he places a dangerous bet that results in him being forced to marry Gemma, the widow of the Earl of Laurelcross.

Gemma once had a passionate side, but has been hiding it ever since her much older husband died during the act of making love. Now she finds herself the much unwanted wife of one of the biggest libertines in London and the subject of even more gossip than ever.

Once they determine they cannot escape the marriage, the two begin a slow circling of each other. Passion is easy, but can they overcome mistrust and secrets in order to make the worst night of their lives one of their best? Or are they bound to lose each other before their love can take root?

This book can be heard as a stand-alone novel but is part of The Notorious Flynns series.

The author created a lot of drama for book three in book two. She also hinted in book three at some things that didn't happen, yet. I hope that they do! I love the characters and the way they stick around for subsequent tales.

Great sequel!

If you liked the first 2 books in the series - you should really like this one! Crispin and Gemma are great together. Crispin really has some issues that keep you guessing on what "really" happened. It all comes together nicely. Really good love scenes. I liked the inclusion of the rest of the family from the first too books - that's always a plus for me!

Best book of the series for me! Credit worthy

I wager you'll like this book!

Volume 1 was great. Volume 2 was bad. Now listening to Crispin's story, it's right in the middle of the other two. Interesting plot. Danielle O'Farrell gives a great female performance but falls flat on male voices. I like Jess Michaels books, but she should take a lesson from Scarlett Scott and use both female and male narrators.

Not as good as Volume 1 but still good

This was an unexpected love story. The twists and turns of it made for interesting reading. I enjoyed the Heroine! She is a beautiful widow and has a strong character. The storyline is captivating, especially the love scenes.
I didn't like the Narrator's voice for the male characters.

Beautiful love story!

This book just did not leave an impression on me at all. A generic story, unmemorable characters and unrealistic storyline. I did not feel taken at all by the book and will definitely not ever attempt to re-read this book as I do some of my favorites. This is not to say it was bad, just not great.

No wow factor

Wasn’t great but wasn’t bad. Had some eye rolls. Lots of sex scenes which was nice but felt a little lacking and repetitive. Could’ve used some more creativeness in the love making scenes. This is book 3 of a series, I’ll be listening to book 1 and 2 for sure. Narration wasn’t bad, could’ve had better male voices.

Pretty good

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I really loved this book and am a huge Jess Michaels fan. I would recommend this book because it is written for thinking adults that want a story that makes sense.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Both the hero and heroine are great. The heroine is smart, brave and practical. She wants to take the steps needed to make her life and those of the people around her better. She is sensible.
The hero has some emotional problems, but is trying to put his life back together after a traumatic incident. He also shows signs of alcoholism, which I have long wondered about during the regency period. There is always scenes of men drinking, port, brandy, whisky, but never any talk of the consequences. You can see it here and how it effects the H//H and his family. Very interesting.

What does Danielle O'Farrell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She is my new favorite narrator. She has a beautiful speaking voice and gives the characters, especially with a novel that is so emotionally intense, depth and poingancy. The voices are well defined. I think she is great and keep looking for more books with her narration. Hopefully her catalogue will increase,as currently there are only a few.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did have an extreme reaction because I just finished reading " the Rogue not taken". The two books have the same theme where the hero is punishing himself for a past incident, where he feels to blame. This novel handled it so well and with such maturity. I kept thinking why two books can have the same idea, but such different execution. The other book was a mess that I could not finish. This novel made me wish for more and I hated it to end.
I was also wondering that the two books have two similarily named characters Sarafiena & Alice. I am not sure if authors are sharing notes on their potential novels, but Jess Michaels far outclasses the competition.

Any additional comments?

I am so sad to see the end to the notorious Flynns. I know it could not go on, but it was a great ride . All three books were wonderful , real and worthwhile reading.
The only problem with finishing a Jess Michaels novel is that there isn't another one for a while. I think she is fantastic and would love to have her back catalogue available on audible.
