About this listen
An intoxicating and bloodthirsty sequel to the New York Times best-selling The Cruel Prince, nominated for the Cilip Carnegie Medal 2019.
I have heard that for mortals, the feeling of falling in love is very like the feeling of fear.
Jude has tricked Cardan onto the throne, binding him to her for a year and a day. But the new High King does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her, even as his fascination with her remains undimmed.
Meanwhile, a traitor in the court is scheming against her. Jude must fight for her life and the lives of those she loves, all while battling her own complicated feelings for Cardan. Now a year and a day seems like no time at all....

Story
Noah Slade is a Formula 1 legend in the making. Focused. Unapproachable. Ruthless on and off the track. A man with walls higher than the Grand Canyon. And my brother's new teammate. I want more of the prince who disguises himself as the villain. But while I crave a happy ending, he wants to destroy his. Maya Alatorre is a forbidden temptation. An ambitious post-grad I should stay far away from. And chaos wrapped with a bow. We're a ticking time bomb, about one wrong move away from exploding. I want to trip the wire, detonating together in passion and pain.

Was not expecting that!
I didn’t know what to expect from with the end of the last book but I was certainly surprised by the turns in the story. I can’t wait to listen to the next book!

This keeps getting better and better!
I absolutely loved book 1 but this one was so much better! I really enjoyed it a lot, the angst, slow burn and the many twists and turns has me in a chokehold.

Sensational follow up
I enjoyed The Cruel Prince but The Wicked King raises the stakes. Fantastic plots, counterplots, schemes and intrigues. Holly Black is a master storyteller.

“Revenge is sweet, but ice cream is sweeter.”
I loved The Cruel Prince. And I absolutely love The Wicked King. It's one of those rare books that improves upon the first. It's very well written with a beautiful lyrical prose. It's so well done that I couldn't put down the book. I love Holly Black and her writing. Caitlin Kelly's performance is also excellent.
In The Wicked King, Jude, with her sharp wit, is every bit of the willful and strong girl she was in the first book. And Cardan really got under my skin. I love them together and their angst romance. I can't wait to see what happens in the third book.

Captivating
As with the first book, this one was so well written and performed. I am honestly enjoying this trilogy so much. I’m torn with the need to finish it but also not wanting it to end! On to book 3 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
