About this listen

Hocus Pocus and Practical Magic meets the Salem witch trials in this haunting story about three sisters on a quest for revenge - and how love may be the only thing powerful enough to stop them.

Welcome to the cursed town of Sparrow...where, two centuries ago, three sisters were sentenced to death for witchery. Stones were tied to their ankles, and they were drowned in the deep waters surrounding the town.

Now, for a brief time each summer, the sisters return, stealing the bodies of three weak-hearted girls so that they may seek their revenge, luring boys into the harbor and pulling them under.

Like many locals, 17-year-old Penny Talbot has accepted the fate of the town. But this year, on the eve of the sisters' return, a boy named Bo Carter arrives, unaware of the danger he has just stumbled into.

Mistrust and lies spread quickly through the salty, rain-soaked streets. The townspeople turn against one another. Penny and Bo suspect each other of hiding secrets. And death comes swiftly to those who cannot resist the call of the sisters.

But only Penny sees what others cannot. And she will be forced to choose: save Bo or save herself.

Meh...

I was intrigued at first but as it went on I found it very teen fantasy romance. It went in the obvious direction and I hoped for more from this book. I felt there were a few directions it could have taken that would have made it a much better story. Simple. So like I said... meh.

Good storyline and atmosphere

I’ve read some great books but this booked painted a setting better than most. I live in Oregon and could instantly picture the cold rugged coastline and gloomy atmosphere the coast has. The story was solid, and a good listen - although the reader they chose spoke softly, so I had to turn up my volume a lot. I’d recommend this book if you’re into something mildly dark, some light romance, and a big semi supernatural mystery.

An awesome Haunting tale of love never ending

I loved this story! I felt like I was right there on the sidelines as one of the locals experiencing the haunting repeat of an age old act of revenge that never could be set right.
This author has a way of taking a turn just as you think you figured things out. I literally could read this again! Perhaps next year just as the the story is about returning each year I will do just that. Read it again!

Entertaining

The narrator has a lovely voice and does an amazing job with inflection and holding the listener's attention. I loved the story line and characters. Occasionally I found myself wishing we could speed things along with some repetitiveness in the storyline. While the author has a way with words, it can be overly descriptive. The ending also left me feeling unsettled like the author couldn't come to one conclusion. i recommend this book. Just make sure you can dedicate the time to it.

Draws You In

It truly is a great book that hooked me right away. The descriptive story telling always drew me in, and I finished it rather quickly.

While good, I will say the story left me wanting to right some of the wrongs written in for the characters. A few deserved so much more, which just a few minor changes. The ending left me feeling a bit…. Disappointed? I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but there were definite changes I’d make.

I would still absolutely recommend this book and will read more from this author.

I loved this book so much, I’m off to find it in hardback today! Great suspenseful story that is performed in a soft dream like rhythm that plays well to the tail! I give this book 5 stars and WILL be reading it once more as soon as I can get my hands on it!

I think I'll listen to this every year

Wonderful and heartbreaking, the narrator did a fantastic job conveying the melancholy and uncertainty of the protagonist. I didn't stop listening to it until it was finished. So whimsical.
