Great story needs to be narrated by someone else

This is a fun but long story and that was why I chose the audiobook. The story is great but the narrator was not the best choice and because of that does not make me want to listen again as I do with most others that I have.

Great book if you don't have to listen.

Loved the story. But the narration was not very good. It was even distracting at times. I will not buy another book with this narrator.

Somewhat dissapointed

I have read this book a couple years ago. The audible was disappointment. As before, I enjoyed the story but the attempted male voice was irritating. Some of the other voice attempts took away from the story as well. The narration overall did the audible book no favor.

Fun Story

Story was interesting. Narration was difficult to understand when the Scottish characters spoke. Ditto for Darcy and Elizabeth while they were in Scotland. Once ODC returned to England dialog was clear, but Elizabeth sounded like a snobbish old woman instead of a young lady of 20. The addition of an author interview might be welcome by some listeners but not me. Reading the book was a better experience.

What a wild ride!

In this Pride and Prejudice variation Lydia elopes with Wickham before Lizzy and the Gardiners leave on their trip to the Lake District. Mr. Bennet and Mr. Gardiner rush to London to search for Lydia, and Jane joins them knowing her father isn't serious about searching. Lizzy convinces Mrs. Gardiner to travel to Scotland to search for Lydia there. After a carriage accident Lizzy is left stranded in Scotland and there she finds Darcy.

This dramatic variation leapt right into the action! It was a wild ride with event after event happening in quick succession. Lizzy already regretted rejecting Darcy when the story began, so the angst wasn't between the couple, but came from outside events. Lizzy and Darcy were fun versions of themselves and I loved this version of a take charge Jane.

I switched from the audio to the kindle version at about the 20% mark. The sample doesn't include the narration for male voices, but they were croaky. I would have preferred no attempt at a male voice, and it pulled me out of the story each time. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

A wonderful what if variation.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you love Pride and Prejudice variations this is one not to miss. The story picks up with Lizzy and the Gardiners learning of Lydia running away with Wickham, however Lizzy and Mrs. Gardiner heading to Scotland while Mr. Gardiner goes to London. Lizzy is so worried about Lydia she makes mistakes and soon finds herself married to Mr. Darcy and cannot remember marrying him.

What other book might you compare The Whisky Wedding to and why?

I’m not sure I have ever read a Pride and prejudice variation with this storyline before, which is why I was interested in this book. Lizzy uses her intelligence and wit to help speed along a resolution to her memory loss and Darcy speeds along the recovery of Lydia.

Which scene was your favorite?

The morning after the wedding, Lizzy wakes up to find herself in bed with an unknown man and freaks out. Darcy unaware of her memory loss is unable to account for his wife’s reaction.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Lizzy’s reconciling with her aunt Gardiner. Lizzy learns how her actions affected her family and what could have happened if Mr. Darcy had not found her on the road after the carriage accident.

Any additional comments?

While I am a fan of Elizabeth Ann West, the narrator sometimes loses my attention. I am affected by the tone in her voice. So I cannot give this an overall five stars. The story was great but not the narration.

Don’t Buy horrible narration

Horrible narration don’t bother you won’t be able to get through the first chapter let alone the whole book.My mistake was not sampling the book first.
The narrator has an American accent and reads the characters in a “english” accent if she remembers to.
All the male and female characters sound the same so it gets confusing on which character is talking.
All the characters are flat with no emotion from the narrator.
This sounded like a fun listen my recommendation is to buy a digital copy and read it yourself.
