About this listen

FBI Agent Pendergast has taken Constance on a whirlwind Grand Tour, hoping to give her closure and a sense of the world that she's missed. They head to Tibet, where Pendergast intensively trained in martial arts and spiritual studies. At a remote monastery, they learn that a rare and dangerous artifact the monks have been guarding for generations has been mysteriously stolen. Pendergast agrees to take up the search.

The trail leads him and Constance to the maiden voyage of the Queen Victoria, the world's largest and most luxurious passenger liner - and to an Atlantic crossing fraught with terror.

Superb

This narrator is incredible and the authors have maintained "edge of seat" suspense and drama with every chapter. This book made my hour commute disappear. In fact, several times, I've sat in garage unable to stop listening to my car player.

Loved story, hated narrator change.

Would you try another book from Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child and/or Rene Auberjonois?

Yes I will try one of their (Preston & Lincoln) other series. Rene would be better If the characters had not been established in a whole other voice. What is funny is the three narrators before Brick picked up series flowed. Not nearly as abrupt a change as Auberjonois. I had a hard time even liking the books because of the change. It hurts to read and I loved the stories so I kept listening.

What did you like best about this story?

Pendergast becoming more human with each story.

What aspect of Rene Auberjonois’s performance would you have changed?

Slow and grumbled. I knew the characters portrayed by Brick. Took me almost all the rest of series to get used to new voices. Never really learned to like them. I listened to whole series because I love agent Pendergast.

Any additional comments?

Get Brick back for next Pendergast book please.

Pendergast is back on the case

The latest installment in the Agent Pendergast series largely takes place on the maiden voyage of the Britannia – North Star’s newest and most luxurious ocean liner. Not quite sure why the synopsis says the Queen Victoria!

Although it gets off to a slow start, the book quickly picks up the pace as soon as Pendergast and Constance get to London. Although our two heroes are the only familiar faces from the Pendergast series, Lincoln and Child do not disappoint by introducing a new slew of characters aboard ship who spring to life and quickly envelop the reader into their struggles.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a change of pace from the New York City setting most of the novels center around. That said, I am looking forward to “Revenant” and seeing Nora and Bill again.

My favorite yet

It was such a wonderful, enticing story. It was difficult to hear rene as pendergast after scott brick performing so many novels in a row.

Lack luster

This is the first Pendergast book I have not been thrilled with. Most of it having to do with the narrator, but the story wasn’t that exciting either. Looks like audible switched performances, the narrator on all prior books was great, this one slipped in and out of very poor accents which grated on my ears.

Story was OK. Like Scott Brick better as a narrator

Story was OK. Narration was flat. What happen to that honey like southern accent. Pendergast ain't the same without it. Will still listen to the books. I like 90 percent of them.

On the list but far down

The book wasn't bad and it was entertaining yet it wasn't great. It was the first book I read in the Pendergast series and that could explain why. Yet I have to admit the other books from this series are on my wish list but far behind so many others. I'm also not really in to mysteries so this could also explain why I didn't love this book.

Good, not great

I struggled with the new reader. I found his voice didn’t capture what I have imagined Pendergast to sound like. All his voices sound the same, almost monotoned. I had a hard time getting into this book because of it.
