Publisher's summary

Another powerful story in the Logan Family Saga and companion to Mildred D. Taylor's Newbery Award-winning Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.

For David Logan, a time of distress means taking the higher road.

During a drought, the Logan family shares their well water with their neighbors, black and white alike. But David's brother Hammer finds it hard to share with Charlie Simms, who torments them because they are black. Hammer's pride and Charlie's meanness are a dangerous combination, and tensions between the boys build and build - until they explode.

One of the best books ever written.

This book shows much of the struggles that black people had back in the day and some of the struggles they still deal with. It's a wonderful story and if it doesn't touch your heart then you may have misplaced it.

This book was great from start to finish!

I loved this book, and can't wait to read the rest of Mildred Taylor's stories!

Great Book!

This book will keep you on the edge from beginning to end. Mildred D.Taylor always provide the fine details to southern living for African Americans during this time period.

Wonderful story terrible value however

The performance of this is very good, but it was just a step away from being excellent. The story itself is excellent. However, a 1hr30min story is hardly worth one whole credit. Audible should consider bundling all of the shorter stories in the Logan family saga so that listeners can get a fairer value.

Needs to be read by a different narration

This is an awesome story but the man who is reading it is no good. He did an awful job of reading this book he made the people sound dumb

ALL WAS NOT WELL

An interesting story of an adventure and a time when it could have meant the death of an innocent man just because of the color of his skin.

Great story, excellent narration

Story and narrator were fantastic. I do wish shorter books could be combined so I didn’t have to use a whole credit on 2 hours of listening. But I will say this is the best narration of any of M.D. Taylor’s books that I have heard so far.

To short!&

I also had not looked at how long this book was so I was very surprised when it was over so quickly! I will most definitely look at the duration of the book from now on!

Great writing but too short of a story

The story was entirely too short. I would’ve loved to hear more interaction from the other brothers and family members
