Publisher's summary

For those who deal in the fate of the world, salvation and destruction are not games of chance.

Ernestine “Ernie” Terwilliger never intended to live among the Immortal Dealers, much less to be party to an ongoing battle where the fate of humanity is in the draw of a card. And the stakes have gotten only higher now that a shady new Forger has been crowned.

Virginia may be in charge of creating the chaos that makes the universe tick, but her assignments have been noble - each one in the aid of strangers. But when Ernie discovers Virginia’s true purpose, she realizes it’s going to take an entirely new kind of play to stop her.

The game changer lies within a mysterious artifact dredged from the ocean. To unlock its powers, Ernie and her partner, Gabe, must traverse dangerous new realms and uncover the history of Forgers past. Joined in a tenuous alliance with a former enemy and stalked by old friends turned lethal foes, Ernie had better play her cards right - because this time, the whole universe could be destroyed in the shuffle.

love this series!

it's been a couple years since i last listened to these books, and I'd forgotten more than i remembered. that's a good thing! esp with this last book. the only thing i could possibly want from this series, the only thing that could improve it, is More!
another book or 2, picking up where this leaves off would be a wonderful surprise!

Great story - the right ending for the series - good but sometimes inconsistent narrator

First, the narrator: Carly Robins has done a great job with most of this. Gabe, Tarlae, Kot, Nuria. (Her voicing of Gabe is fantastic!!) However, her narration of Ernie is inconsistent - sometimes she has a strong accent, sometimes weak, sometimes none. It get confusing in a couple of spots due to that.

The story: it ended right. Sarah Fine did a great job with this. It is as good as the first and not as frustrating as the second. The characters continued developing, and Ernie and Gabe finally talked with each other and are working things out through the book. Finally, communication.

I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say that the resolution of their problems is amazing and simply makes sense. It works. Good job, Ms. Fine!

truly enjoyed this series!

The story's plot is a very clever idea that is different from any other story in the fantasy genre. It was low drama, had minimal violence and no gratuitous sex. I don't even think there was even swearing. The story and series was just intriguing and kept my attention.
As always, Carly Robins' narration was spot on.

Great

I loved this book and hope to read something again similar to this. The person who read the story was great as well as the author.
