About this listen

In the much-anticipated sequel to the "magnificent fantasy epic" (NPR) Grace of Kings, Emperor Kuni Garu is faced with the invasion of an invincible army in his kingdom and must quickly find a way to defeat the intruders.

Kuni Garu, now known as Emperor Ragin, runs the archipelago kingdom of Dara but struggles to maintain progress while serving the demands of the people and his vision. Then an unexpected invading force from the Lyucu Empire in the far distant west comes to the shores of Dara - and chaos results.

But Emperor Kuni cannot go and lead his kingdom against the threat himself with his recently healed empire fraying at the seams, so he sends the only people he trusts to be Dara's savvy and cunning hopes against the invincible invaders: his children, now grown and ready to make their mark on history.

Ken Liu does it again.

I went into this tale worried that it wouldn't live up to grace of kings. I couldn't have been more wrong! I love how we get so much charecter development which makes loosing them a truly emotional moment. the only problem I see with this book is that there isn't a 3rd one ready to go.

I like Japanese fiction and loved game of thrones.

This is like game of thrones in Japanese fictional universe. Super entertaining and decently unpredictable. Big fan of this series.

AMAZING. Beautiful novel where steal the show

This is easily one of my favorite novels of all time. I really enjoyed the Grace of Kings but was blown away by The Wall of Storms. The characters have a depth and humanity to them that is both inspiring and familiar. The women rule in this sequel where they wield power and influence with bookish ingenuity, confident sexuality, and military prowess. I loved this beautiful novel, we need more of this kind of story telling in the world!

Fantastic

Complicated dissection of delicate human motivation and emotions. At times pointedly depressing and disarming true to our all to human natures. Bravo

A most interesting sequel.

This book was very well written, covering a staggeringly large setting over more than a decade of time. While I liked the first book of this series better, that in no way means that this addition to the series was less than amazing. I eagerly await the next chapter of this saga.

Much better than the first book!

In this one the author actually shows you what happens instead of describing important events well after the fact. His characterization is much better as well, and the plot truly took off. As with the first he deals with complex moral conundrums adroitly, and is able to argue well from multiple sides of the same problem. As always Michael Kramer brings life to the story in ultra high definition.

Phenomenal

This is an incredible sequel by Ken Liu. The political intrigue in this book was just masterfully handled. In an 850 page book, we see so much change happening over a couple decades as new technologies and science are discovered, as well as new threats enter the battle field. The way Liu incorporates technology and science with the magic of this world is outstanding. I stayed glued to the pages for the entire book. While the story is heavily cemented in political intrigue, Liu cannot help but show off his prowess at writing action and combat as well. All in all, I was shocked and horrified and had my emotions damaged several times, as Liu held nothing back and delivered an insane story line.

Liu also did an incredible job writing such incredibly rich and diverse characters. It was also such a joy to see the way Liu handles the female characters in this story. I believe it was masterfully done, as we see society and the world changing with the development of new technology and scientific research, we also see the women of the story refusing to bow down to the patriarchy, and carving their own names in the annals of history. On top of this, (as in book 1) we see the gods of Dara continue to have voices and scheme in the affairs of the populace and it is always such a joy to see their schemes play out.

Overall, this book was masterfully written and I cannot wait to continue the series.

Wow highly recommend

If you like game of thrones. Star Wars. Yea this one is for you. This is absolutely perfect sf. For me it was unpredictable the dynasty goes on and their is more to come. The gods are still at it and when you think their is no problem along comes one big one. Marshal Zindu is highly missed in this second novel of the dandelion dynasty. Cannot wait for the third
