If you love historical fiction, Cameron is one of the best writers out there. He picked a location near and dear to my heart - Venice - probably my favorite city in the world. He has an intriguing main character with a fascinating cast of minor characters. Plenty of action and intrigue and an intricate look at the politics of Venice in the mid-17th century....

An erudite historian with a gifted pen, Christian Cameron is THE consummate author of historical fiction, excelling with each new endeavor. With this newer series we have another exceptional read in an already impressive body of work.

Edited: As much as I find certain habits / rabbit holes of Cameron's irritating, he's my favorite author and I can't really hold his eccentricities against him.

Excellent story. It is a great way to get the feel for 17th century Venice. A bit different style from the author's other novels and I look forward to the next murder mystery from him.

Venetian Historical Police Procedural Style

This was my first Christian Cameron book but it won’t be my last. It was a nice work of historical fiction and you can tell that the author was immersed into the detail of his story. It was a nice mix of excitement and immersion into the baroque era of Venice. A gripping story for a time period that doesn’t get enough attention. I also appreciate how well the author was able to have a character be an outsider in a setting but still incorporate and weave him into it without trouble.

A nice historical thriller

Enjoyed the cast of characters and general stumbling around trying to solve a murder, could have used some more mystery regarding the identity of the killer but all in all a good bit of swashbuckling

Fun spy novel in a cool setting

Christian Cameron's writing coupled with Peter Noble's narration is quite possibly my favorite combination for audiobooks of any kind.

I really enjoyed this book, though it is a bit different than the other Christian Cameron audiobooks on here. This one is more of a historical genre fiction investigative/spy thriller rather than a historical genre fiction narrative. It's very good and I highly recommend this work!
