Publisher's summary

In The Truth about Obamacare, Sally C. Pipes - president of the Pacific Research Institute and an acknowledged expert on health care reform - reveals what Democrats in Congress and President Barack Obama don't want you to know: Obamacare is even worse than most critics suspect. Debunking the myths that the current administration has touted, Pipes shows exactly what the new health-care law will mean for you, your family, your doctor, and your wallet. Among the myths Pipes will bust:

  • Myth One: Every American will have access to care.
  • Myth Two: If you like your doctor and your insurance, nothing will change.
  • Myth Three: Obamacare will save us from "spending too much" on health care.
  • Myth Four: Obamacare will make our health care more "efficient" the way that European health care is - or actually is not.

The Truth about Obamacare reveals how, contrary to its promises, Obamacare will make health care more expensive, limit your options, lead to deteriorating medical care, and weaken America's already frail economy.

A chilling account of where we are and we're going

The main message of this book is: Be Afraid! And with good reason. The author unscrables the insanity that has come out of Washington and lays out the facts for all to see. She speaks about the failure of socialized healthcare in other nations, the conditions of the healthcare industry in those nations and the path we have been forced to walk down. I hope you have private insurance... then again, it will probably be worthless in a few years anyway.

A summary well worth the read

As the author points out the health bill is over 2,600 pages and contains wheels within wheels making it at least difficult to understand. It is almost impossible to cut through the numbing regulations, dictates and requirements and most importantly what changes will occur in how healthcare was practiced. This book helps to cut through the bill's morass. It is (obviously) written as a critique so the reader has to make his/her own judgement if the author's arguments are plausible. But, on the whole, I find it a great help in formulating an understanding and opinion of the bill. (Recall that as the bill becomes implemented more about its internal working affecting people's, government's and industry's relationships to employees are revealed.) The book is a bit dated. For instance it speaks, and criticizes, of the $600 - 1099 requirement Congress overturned in 2011. I highly recommend it.

A Good Review of Obamacare

Any additional comments?

This book provides important details that remind us of the inherent problems with Obamacare. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to remain conversant with the actual facts as this issue takes on a new emotional life during the presidential campaign.
