About this listen
On her way to work, for one terrifying instant Jennifer Canfield sees a tiny hand in the trunk of a car that barely misses slamming into her van. A doll? A child? With no time to think she must act and so begins a non-stop, breathlessly suspenseful journey to find the truth and possibly save a life. Stephen Baron, a road construction worker, joins her in her pursuit of a possible kidnapper through the hills of California. And where the chase ends reveals exactly how courage and love can show up when we least expect them and change everything.
From Leland Dirks, author of "Angelo's Journey" and "Seven Dogs in Heaven"...
Listening to her heart, against the advice of her brain, Jen takes off on an adventurous chase on California backroads where more than the story of the chase is hidden.
Ms. Nash masterfully sets the stage, sculpts believable characters, and sets them free to discover whether their heads or their hearts are more reliable allies in this fight between good and evil. Your heart wants you to read this book. Before you've turned listened very long, your brain will be glad, too.

No one knows exactly when it began or where it originated. A terrifying new plague is spreading like wildfire across the country, striking cities one by one: Boston, Detroit, Seattle. The doctors call it Draco Incendia Trychophyton. To everyone else it's Dragonscale, a highly contagious, deadly spore that marks its hosts with beautiful black and gold marks across their bodies - before causing them to burst into flames. Story
Refuge, New Hampshire, is a small town. The kind found on postcards. Their biggest concern is the rowdy summertime revelers making their way up from Massachusetts and New York. And with most of the town's residents in neighboring Ashland, for the Fourth of July fireworks show, Refuge is quieter than usual. That is, until the Baptist church's bell starts ringing - on its own. The bell chimes faster and faster, reaching a frenetic pace, as though rung by the Devil himself. But the bell is just the beginning.

Story
For years, the biggest threat that Yellowstone was thought to offer was in the form of its semi-dormant super volcano. Little did anyone realize the threat was real and slowly working its way to the surface, but not in the form of magma. Lying deep within the bowels of the Earth itself, an ancient virus waited. Recently credited with the extinction of Neanderthal man, the virus erupts into a crowded Yellowstone. The park is packed with sight seers and party goers during a benefit concert who are all now fodder for the ancient rage virus.

Short, predictable
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
This worked well as a novella, because the shorter length kept the focus on the action. The plot moved crisply, without getting bogged down.
Despite its short length, the action, setting, and main character were all richly described. The only aspect I found lacking was in the character of the supporting character. I would have liked more information about who he is, beyond being a “nice guy” who appears to be comfortable with feminism. Does he have children? Does he want kids? What does he like to do in his spare time?!
That said, I’d still recommend this highly.
Great main character
