Publisher's summary

Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice meets Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.

The Bennets’ first born child, Elizabeth Bennet, was overindulged and had no role model to guide her in controlling her temper. Now she has gained quite the reputation. Mr. Bennet must to go to extreme means to force his eldest to consider love.

He informs her that none of her sisters may enter society until she has entered into a courtship. When her favorite sister meets a stranger and begins to fall in love, Elizabeth agrees to accept the next courtship offered. But with Elizabeth’s history, who would consider approaching her?

Good Narration

One can imagine how Mr.Bennet feels, his eldest daughter and needing a match for her. He would like someone that could tame her fiery temper.
The audio was great bringing this out. Good retailing of the two stories. Well done, and the audio was an added plus. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

Cute, clean

This was fun to listen to. The narrator did a great job on this one. I liked the creative way the author changed the original book to make it her own.

Fun retelling if Pride and Prejudice

I enjoyed listening to this retelling of Pride and Prejudice. It was a great story and the narrator was enjoyable to listen to. She did a good job of using different voices for each character. The story was also well done and amusing. I loved the ending.

The Taming of Elizabeth

If you like Pride and Prejudice then you will like this story as well. I thought it was well written and left me wanting to get through it as fast as I could to see what happened next.

good book

Great variation on Pride and Prejudice with a bit of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew added to the mix. Believably 'Jane Austin' in style. Very enjoyable clean book with a HEA

Delightful variation!

In this Pride and Prejudice and The Taming of the Shrew mashup, Lizzy is the eldest of the Bennet girls, and she has a nasty reputation. She is known for her vicious temper and her cruel treatment of her suitors. Mr. Bennet despairs of his eldest and dearest daughter finding a husband, and so he declares that until Lizzy has found a suitor, none of her sisters are allowed to come out.

When Mr. Bingley meets and falls for the lovely Jane Bennet, he hatches a plan. Ask his good friend Mr. Darcy to pose as a suitor to Lizzy. But neither of them expect Lizzy and Darcy to be quite so perfect for each other.

I'll be the first to admit that I've never read The Taming of the Shrew, so any comparisons to that work went right over my head. But I really enjoyed seeing this Lizzy and Darcy almost in a power reversal. I was afraid from the description that this version of Lizzy would be unlikable, but she still retains most of her personality traits. She loves her family dearly and isn't selfish. She just has a quick temper that rises near brainless or untrustworthy men, which is understandable really! I really enjoyed this story.

The narration was really well done, a performance that brought me right into the story. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

Really loved this one!

Great humor and the length was just long enough. The characters were really enjoyable to listen to.

Another creative P&P variation

Story: 4 stars

A unique take on our favorite characters/plot! Obvious references to The Taming of the Shrew. And because of that premise, Elizabeth is a totally different character than we are used to. Darcy is intrigued by her and is man enough to want her in spite of some of her more violent actions towards him.

He does use his wealth to save her family, but it has nothing to do with Lydia and it is a really neat variation!

Mr. Bingley and Jane are pretty much the same as ever. Mr. Bennett is a better father in this version.

Elizabeth has a different character than Jane Austen gave her and that fact may make some readers/listeners not like this version as much. She has less humor, more intensity and a terrible temper. (Think 'Taming of the Shrew'). That said, it's creative and I give Ms. Worth full credit for her ability to come up with new and unique P&P variations!

Narration: 3.5 stars

Ms. Green has a good accent, there were a couple of mispronunciations, but nothing too horrible. She reads well and is a good voice actress. A very unique voice-you'll never mix her up with any other voice actor!

Excellent Story/Good Reader

I had read this book once before getting the audio companion for it. I LOVE IT! Now that I have the audio, I am on my second time listening through it in just over a week. It's just that good. The story is so much fun. Since it's a combination of the Taming of the Shrew and P&P, it's not just the same ole same ole that makes up so much of these variations. It also means that Lizzy is, IMO, slightly out of character, but the author makes it really, really work. The story is well-done from start to finish.
This is also a very clean read, which is important to me, but you can still feel the relationship slowly grow between ODC.

My teen boys actually listened to large parts of with me (they were a captive audience while I listened in the car) and were not totally turned off by it, which they typically are as soon as I mention P&P variation. Maybe it helps that they're both taking British Lit in our homeschool this year. =)

The reader is really good. There are a few I like better, but I enjoyed her rendition of this.

Eh

I definitely heard better. The narrator also seemed to be forcing the accent by adding a lisp.
