In his most important book yet, widely acclaimed author and speaker Brian McLaren proposes a new faith alternative, one built on "benevolence and solidarity rather than rivalry and hostility." This way of being Christian is strong but doesn't strong-arm anyone, going beyond mere tolerance to vigorous hospitality toward, interest in, and collaboration with the other. Blending history, narrative, and brilliant insight, McLaren shows readers step-by-step how to reclaim this strong-benevolent faith.

Story
We are in the midst of a paradigm shift in the church. Not since the Reformation five centuries ago have so many Christians come together to ask whether the church is in sync with their deepest beliefs and commitments. These believers range from evangelicals to mainline Protestants to Catholics, and the person who best represents them is author and pastor Brian McLaren. In this much anticipated book, McLaren examines ten questions facing today's church - questions about how to articulate the faith itself, the nature of its authority, who God is....

Story
How can an evangelical view of Scripture be reconciled with modern biblical scholarship? In this book Peter Enns, an expert in biblical interpretation, addresses Old Testament phenomena that challenge traditional evangelical perspectives on Scripture. He then suggests a way forward, proposing an incarnational model of biblical inspiration that takes seriously both the divine and the human aspects of Scripture.

Katie Langston is an unlikely convert to Christianity. From the outside, she had a typical Mormon life. Inside, she was coming apart at the seams.

In a shallow light-speed world, how can we really know and be known by another person? How do we make true friends? The Digital Age is all about change, but the need for true friendship never changes. We are designed for real engagement with others - for affirmation that goes beyond a simple "like" on social media, for connection over meals, for hope and excitement about the future. Above all, we need to be known and accepted for who we are.

Story
In this groundbreaking, inspiring book, Robin R. Meyers, the senior minister of Oklahoma City’s Mayflower Congregational United Church of Christ, shows how listeners can move from a theology of obedience to one of consequence. He argues that we need to stop seeing our actions as a means for pleasing a distant God and rediscover how God has empowered us to care for ourselves and the world. Drawing on stories from his decades of active ministry, Meyers captures how the struggles of ordinary people hint at how we can approach faith as a radical act of trust in a God who is all around us.

Story
In this candid book based on his own struggle with doubt, John Ortberg traces the line between belief and unbelief and finds that it's less a dividing line between hostile camps than a razor's edge that runs through every soul. His findings point toward the relief of being totally honest. Doubt … Questions … Honest faith … Outrageous hope … It's a chain reaction that can actually strengthen our relationship with God, and that, says Ortberg, is cause for celebration.

Truly Outstanding
There are only a dozen or so books that I've read more than once. Still fewer that I've read multiple times. I must have listened to this audio book a dozen times. Each time I do, I walk away with more. I've been to Seminary and have two masters degrees, plus decades of ministry experience. This book puts the gospel bettet than ive ever heard it. There is something so holy about this book. Please listen and internalize. See yourself in it. Absolutely amazing.

I think The Father wants us to keep our brains when we come to Him. I love this stuff. God is so BIG.

Open Learning Minds will appreciate this work!!!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Many of the people I know have walked away from a rigid, inflexible religion that was supposed to bring life, but failed to do so. This book, though not perfect or complete, gets a person thinking far beyond the modern us vs them mentality that is killing beautifully spiritual people.

Feeling attuned with the universe.
Listening to this book makes me feel peaceful and energized both at the same time. The author telling The Story We Find Ourselves In through the rich voice of so many characters is enchanting and affirming. I think the peace comes from his addressing the Bible in such a fresh and meaningful way. The energy certainly comes from the affirmation he gives to living life as a follower of Jesus. And there is assurance in his view of our judgment before a loving creator who forgives our missteps and celebrates our worth as a human being. Right now I am starting to listen to the whole book again. I am anticipating the joy of hearing it all in its triumphant truth and inspiring honesty.

Continuing the Paradigm Change
This sequel to New Kind of Christian is both deeper and broader. It explains the themes in man's relationship / process with God. Continuation of the work identifying and understanding the post-modern approach to Christianity. Not easy subject material, but worthy.

Wonderful
I really enjoyed the stories (because there is more than one), the quiet wisdom. I found the Jamaican accent the narrator used for the character Neo wasn’t quite “on” and that detracted a bit from the story. But overall I thoroughly enjoyed it.
