About this listen

Selling stories is a deadly business....

Tanwen doesn't just tell stories - she weaves them into crystallized sculptures that sell for more than a few bits. But the only way to escape the control of her cruel mentor and claw her way from poverty is to set her sights on something grander: becoming Royal Storyteller to the king.

During her final story peddling tour, a tale of treason spills from her hands, threatening the king himself. Tanwen goes from peddler to prey as the king's guard hunts her down...and they're not known for their mercy. As Tanwen flees for her life, she unearths long-buried secrets and discovers she's not the only outlaw in the empire. There's a rebel group of weavers...and they're after her, too.

A unique and fun story! I don’t typically enjoy books written in the 1st person, but this one works. Definitely recommended.

I loved the book so much so I wish I had time to read it instead of listen to it. It was very different than other adventure stories I have read. The only thing I didn't like is that in the story, though written with gentleness and truth of some but not too much real live injustice, the dark skin people seemed to have it hardest. Being black american myself I prefer my fantasy reading to be an escape from stories of dark skin people being oppressed because of dark skin. That was only a very small part of a side story and I'm pretty sure the author's way of helping people see that judging based off of high melanin levels is wrong. However I still very much intend to read (listen to) the other books in this series. Also this is a good stand alone book if you aren't into series. It finishes well. You will just "want" to read the next books.

I enjoyed
