About this listen

Popular inspirational novelist Beverly Lewis transports you to the quiet Amish community in Hickory Hollow, Pennsylvania where time has stood still. In The Shunning, beautiful 22-year-old Katie Lapp longs to experience the forbidden things of the outside world, even while she is making plans to forever embrace the traditions of her people. In a few days, Katie will marry Bishop John, a widower with five young children. She should be excited, but instead she feels trapped. Her thoughts in turmoil, she heads to the attic to be alone. As she explores a dusty trunk, she discovers a satin infant gown, much too fancy for an Amish baby. From that moment, Katie is determined to learn the truth behind the garment, even if it destroys the only life she has known. Beverly Lewis creates a refreshingly clean tale of poignant secrets, shattered dreams - and new hope for the future. All the joys and troubles of the busy Amish society burst from the pages with Barbara Caruso's superb performance.©1997 Beverly Lewis (P)1998 Recorded Books Amish & Mennonite Contemporary Contemporary Romance Fiction Romance Women's Fiction Amish

I could not bear to listen

I strongly recommend finding a different narrator to read this fine book. I found this narration histrionic and melodramatic.

response to Shunning

the story captured my attention from beginning to end I just wish the epilogue had included the next book in succession. I would love to read more about Katie and how her life goes on. The story seem to to be fill with may points of desperation and longing and sorrow. Daniel's reappearance caught me by surprise. I look forward to more about Katie lapp.

Very good read

much better than the movie and I am going to keep this one in my library. I can't wait to read the second book the onfesion, I will bet it's more detailed than the movie as well. Beverly Lewis had to have grown up with the Amish, she knows so much about them. I had great Aunt from Michigan , her and her husband were Amish, they would come to S.C.to see us about very two years when I was a child, o I love reading and watching a movie about them.

Enjoy this book

How sad that a person that said to believe in God give more power and énfasis of the rules of man and put aside the real word of God and HIS purposes for his people. I understand that this a novel, but I also know of the dangers of the false teachers. Let’s be aware of them.
