About this listen
In this Ralph Compton Western, the Strange twins find themselves in double trouble....
Young Jed and Tim Strange lost their father to an outlaw's bullet, and now, their mother has succumbed to a fatal illness. Unable to farm their land due to a lack of funds, the twins set out to find their sister - who left home to avenge their father's death more than a year ago.
Farm life hasn't prepared the twins for the rough-and-tumble cow towns west of Missouri. Before they even begin their search, they're accused of a murder they didn't commit. Just barely escaping a posse's rope, the twins are on the run - wounded, hounded by the law, and desperately seeking the true killers....

Story
One of the deadliest, crime-infested towns in Colorado Territory, Devil's Gulch needed more than a sheriff. They needed a gunslinger. So they pinned a badge on hardcase lawman John Holt. And the rest is history. As the town's new sheriff, John Holt achieved the impossible: He drove the devil out of Devil's Gulch. Corrupt, cutthroat rancher Joe Mullen—who ruled the land with an iron fist—is finally behind bars, thanks to Sheriff Holt. But the tables are turned when Mullen manages to overturn his prison wagon and make his escape—with an army of prisoners, outlaws, and lowlifes to do his bidding.

Story
After a lifetime of robbing banks and holding up trains, Jimmy "Slash" Braddock and Melvin "Pecos Kid" Baker are ready to call it quits, though not completely by choice. Sold out by their old gang, they have to bust out of jail and pull one last job to finance their early retirement. The target is a rancher's payroll train. Catch is: the train is carrying a Gatling gun and 20 deputy US marshals who know they're coming. Caught and quickly sentenced to hang, their old enemy - the wheelchair-bound, bucket of mean, Marshal L. C. Bledsoe - shows up at the last minute to spare their lives.

Story
Holt’s latest job is in Devil’s Gulch in Colorado Territory. But wiping out bands of bank robbers is just the beginning. More disorder is brewing, and the skittish mayor has handpicked Holt as the new sheriff. Holt is what the town needs: a mercenary with a badge, a loaded Remington, and a deadeye-aim for trouble. Devil’s Gulch has the vigilance committee. The man behind it—Joe Mullen, the largest rancher and mine owner in the valley—isn’t keen on an outsider like Holt muscling in on a good thing. Mullen already has his hand in all the crime in Devil’s Gulch.

Story
It’s 1852. The wounds of the Mexican War are healing. Regis Royle, co-owner of a steamship fleet, has made it out alive, relatively unscarred and with enough profit and foolhardy ambition to envision a new life in south Texas. With the help of his crack-shot kid brother Shepley, his glad-handing riverboat partner Cormac Delany, and his old friend, raw-edged former Texas Ranger Jarvis “Bone” McGraw, Regis is laying claim to the prime jewel in a magnificent rolling prairie: the Santa Calina range teeming with wild mustangs, cattle, and eighteen-thousand acres of lush promise.

Story
Once a respected lawman in Kansas and Oklahoma, Ty Brannigan ended his career as town marshal of Warknife while he was still young enough to marry, start a family, and raise cattle. Now nearly sixty, he’s a proud husband, father of four, and proprietor of the Powderhorn Ranch. He’s more content wrangling cows than criminals. But for every outlaw Brannigan put in jail, noosed, or left to the vultures, he made even more enemies. They’ve made the mistake of targeting his wife and children—only to discover that Ty Brannigan enforces his own law with a lightning-fast draw.

Nothing left to do now but deliver the last two-thousand cows to Albilene and collect their pay. There’s just one problem. Texans like Jim Bowie and Sam Houston were waging a fierce struggle against Santa Ana’s Mexican army and Jami MacCallister made the perfect scout for the fledgling volunteer force.

When Ben Savage receives a telegram informing him that an old friend died - and left him his saloon - he’s not sure what to think. Western saloons are as wild as it gets, full of rowdy ranchers and cocky cowboys, high-stakes gamblers and low-life drifters, hard liquor and easy women. Then there’s the occasional outlaw gang. I enjoyed this book. I'm still stuck on how she can hide her gender for all that time but I didn't dwell on it too long. Lots of action. Hopefully the next book will have a dog added to the cast of characters. That would make the last book in the series perfect

Who is Danny Dugging?
Ralph Compton is one of my favorite Aurthor's. I have read or listened to many of his Audio Books and he has never disappointed me . He knows what most Western enthusiasts want in this genre and he comes through.
This the story of the Strange family wanting revenge on the men that killed their Pa.
They robbed him and left him swinging from a Oak tree by the road one day. No spoiler's, because I hate it when someone does that in a review.
This is one of my favorite stories, filled with lots of action to keep me not wanting to put the book down.
I also liked the Narrator, Jason Culp who did a fantastic job. He had the voices of many characters to switch between and make them sound the same as before. He also has the knack for emerging you into the situation at hand. It is almost like watching a movie the way he describes each character. It makes the story more interesting when one gives you a feeling of what the environment is like. I applaud him for not being one of those sucking chest breather's, they only anoy me.
I'm summary, I will say if you read or listen to this story, I promise you, if you want to know how the Old West was in the eighteen hundreds, you found it. Also, this story has a surprising twist at the end I wasn't expecting.
