Publisher's summary

Lorelai Diederich, crown princess and fugitive at large, has one mission: kill the wicked queen who took both the Ravenspire throne and her father's life. To do that, Lorelai needs to use the one weapon she and Queen Irina have in common - magic. She'll have to be stronger, faster, and more powerful than Irina, the most dangerous sorceress Ravenspire has ever seen.

In the neighboring kingdom of Eldr, when Prince Kol's father and older brother are killed by an invading army of magic wielding ogres, the second-born prince is suddenly given the responsibility of saving his kingdom. To do that, Kol needs magic of his own - and the only way to get it is to make a deal with the queen of Ravenspire, promise to become her personal huntsman - and bring her Lorelai's heart. But Lorelai is nothing like Kol expected - beautiful, fierce, and unstoppable - and despite dark magic,

Lorelai is drawn in by the passionate and troubled king. Fighting to stay one step ahead of the dragon huntsman - who she likes far more than she should-Lorelai does everything in her power to ruin the wicked queen. But Irina isn't going down without a fight, and her final move may cost the princess the one thing she still has left to lose.

Critic reviews

"Redwine uses Snow White as a framework to create her own fantasy filled with complex characters, imaginative and horrible consequences, and sharp twists, all of which give this novel a place among other clever, contemporary romantic fantasies." ( Booklist)

The Princess's Promise

A nice new spin on the story of Snow White. In this tale, her huntsman happens to be a kingly, dragon hybrid. The evil queen is as evil as ever and very creative with her plans to rule what she"thinks"is her kingdom. But she can only"take"with force from those unwilling to aid her in her destruction of their home and land, taking a toll on the evil queens magic, draining her.She will go to any lengths though to win what she thinks is rightly hers, but in the end, only the heart of the princess, and the honesty of her magic will prevail leaving the evil queen with nothing.

love the new twist to the snow white story

Love the new snow white twist! Narrator was good for the female parts, but should have had a male for the male parts.

great book, but 1 thing kinda ruined it for me.

the story is great, the narrators great. Just didn't like a specific death in the book around chapter 14. Think it would have been better without it. Especially the ending.

Phenomenal!

Epitome of painting with words. I can hardly wait to start CJ Redwine's next book.

Beautiful retelling of Snow White - BUT better!

You can feel the magic in this performance. The writing alone brings new life to the story of Snow White but it is so much more. Loved it!!!!

Just an Average Retelling

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Overall, this book was pretty average so the time I spent on it wasn't wasted, but wasn't treasured either.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

While it was a retelling, it lack anything new that makes retellings compelling to read.

An excellent twist on Snow White

The narration is spot on and really adds to the story! Ms. Havam voices each character differently, and you always know who is speaking.
The story is well written, with some very unexpected twists and turns. I like the way magic is used and infused with nature often.
The characters are realistic, and the reader/listener becomes involved with them fairly quickly in the story. I would have liked to have more time with these characters, but I have read the summaries of the next books in the series, and each one stands alone. I will listen to them anyway, but I will miss Lorelei and Kol.

A book of heart

A wonderful story that filled a my heart and kept me on my toes. It was occasionally difficult to differentiate the voices between characters and situations but you catch on quick.
