About this listen

Explore how the Second World War began, the aftermath, and the events in between, while also getting an in-depth look into the extraordinary military operation called D-Day.

Two captivating manuscripts in one audiobook:

  • World War 2: A Captivating Guide from Beginning to End
  • D-Day: A Captivating Guide to the Battle for Normandy

The Second World War was one of the most traumatic events in human history. Across the world, existing conflicts became connected, entangling nations in a vast web of violence. It was fought on land, sea, and air, touching every inhabited continent. Over 55 million people died, some of them combatants, some civilians caught up in the violence, and some murdered by their own governments.

It was the war that unleashed the Holocaust and the atomic bomb upon the world. But it was also a war that featured acts of courage and self-sacrifice on every side.

D-Day, the Allied invasion of German-held Normandy, was one of the most extraordinary achievements not only of the Second World War but in the whole of military history. Millions of Allied personnel were involved in launching the greatest sea-borne invasion ever undertaken. Incredible acts of cunning and of courage ensured success in an operation that changed the face of the war, opening a vast new front. It led to the liberation of France and the defeat of Nazi Germany.

Why was this extraordinary operation launched? How was it done? And what happened in the aftermath? Listen to this audiobook now to learn more about World War 2 and D-Day!

Very hard to put down. A weaving of misguided complacency and "out of the square" thinking that carried the day. It's now history.

Over the past two decades, The writer has proved himself as one of the world's premier historians of WWII.There is little balance to be found and much of the narrative relies on gossipy speculation and hearsay.

Happy I found this book!!!

The author's researches of issues of united leadership are examples of fair-minded view and just perspective, and his evaluations of leadership practically protected, to the probable trouble of followers of all stripes.

Everything that high school history should have been for World War 2, intriguing, entertaining, and completely enrapturing in the way that I feel all history teachers should be.

The start is very good in the setting up of how much preplanning went into the invasion. That part of the book is quite fascinating. At the actual landings, it is difficult to criticize because of the subject matter but the book becomes very repetitive.

Impressive

The book gave a very descriptive picture of the horrors and heroism that took place during the battle of D-Day. For those who are interest in World War II, this account of the battle for winning the war will truly be very satisfying.
