About this listen

With a bit of last summer's sand in the pockets, the Traveling Pants and the Sisterhood that wears them embark on their 16th summer.

Bridget: Impulsively sets off for Alabama, wanting to both confront her demons about her family and avoid them all at once.

Lena: Spends a blissful week with Kostos, making the unexplainable silence that follows his visit even more painful.

Carmen: Is concerned that her mother is making a fool of herself over a man. When she discovers that her mother borrowed the Pants to wear on a date, she's certain of it.

Tibby: Not about to spend another summer working at Wallman's, she takes a film course only to find it's what happens off-camera that teaches her the most.

Critic reviews

"Brashares has deftly interwoven the story's strands to convey the relaxed intimacy of the girls' friendships as well as the many parallels in their individual experiences....big-hearted, complex tale of living, learning, and caring." (School Library Journal)
"A happy, ultimately hopeful book, easy to read and gentle in its important lessons. Readers will want at least one more summer of the sisterhood of the traveling pants." (Booklist)

This narrator cannot do accents properly

This narrator was HORRIBLE with attempting accents. Oh really took me out of the novel

I love this book!

Wonderful story, I couldn’t stop listening to it. I loved everything about it. I always wish for a friendship like that. I love this book even more than the first one.

Fantastic story of friendship

Loved this book! I was worried because the narrator is different - but she does a fantastic job. This book was even better than the first. You really get pulled into the various characters' lives and start to care deeply for them. I like that we learn more about the mothers in this book too. This one moved me to tears more than once. A very good read.

Quick Listen

What did you love best about The Second Summer of the Sisterhood?

The girls are growing up. I find myself really wanting them all to succeed and find themselves. This summer was more complicated and their situations were a bit more serious than the first.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Carmen in the first book best, but Tibby in this one. I relate to her the most. She makes mistakes, but she tries to correct them.

Which scene was your favorite?

B, on the soccer field.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Tibby and her movie

Any additional comments?

I am downloading the third summer right away to see what comes next. Hopefully, their relationships are a little bit better next summer. That is my only complaint- How the girls seem to be so enthralled by guys. I understand its a teen book, and they are teenagers. However, I'm starting to tune out Lena's life.

Fabulous

Another fantastic summer with the Sisterhood. If you've listened to the first book, you'll pick right up with the girls, who are really young ladies in the sequel. I thought the book was a little slow at the start, but once it gets going, you'll sit in the car for "just another minute" after you reach your destination. The second half has several "I-can't-cry-because-I'm driving" moments.

The third book is due out in January, and I will purchase that one as soon as Audible has it available.

Good book to listen to

This book wasnt as good as the first one to listen too, the narration was better on the first book. I understand that each book is supposed by each one of the girls but the narrator could have stayed the same. Other than that, I LOVE these books.

Excellent installment

I adore this series, and the second book does not disappoint. Emotionally complex, compassionate, wise, and very satisfying.

Another hit

Brashares does it again in the Second Summer! I was again drawn into the world of the Sisterhood, and I laughed and cried, felt lost and triumphed right along with the girls. If you haven't read the first book, I highly recommend doing so before falling into this one.

More of the same

If you liked the First "Traveling Pants", try the second volume. It's basically more of the same... same characters with the same youthful faults and the same predictable happy ending. With that said- this was a very entertaining listen. It was not heavy, which is perfect for the summer or vacation listen.
