Publisher's summary

A lost girl and a blind boy discover their greatest strength is their bond with each other in a beguiling fantasy by the New York Times bestselling author of The First Girl Child.

An insidious curse is weakening the Norse kingdom of Saylok, where no daughters have been born in years. Washing up on these plagued shores is Ghisla, an orphaned stowaway nursed back to health by Hod, a blind cave dweller. Named for a mysterious god, Hod is surrounded by prophecy. To Ghisla, he’s a cherished new friend, but to Hod, the girl is much more. For when Ghisla sings, Hod can see.

Unable to offer safe shelter, Hod urges Ghisla onward to become a daughter of the temple, where all the kingdom’s girl children have been gathered. But because of a magical rune, the two cannot be separated, no matter the time or the distance.

Now, subject to a ruthless king, Ghisla enters a desperate world of warring clan chieftains and catastrophic power struggles. Uncertain whom to trust, their bond strained by dangerous secrets and feuding loyalties, Ghisla and Hod must confront the prophecies that threaten Saylok while finding a way to save each other.

Intriguing

So this is the 2nd book in this world. I have to say that I enjoy this world a lot and hope to see more come. The story itself I don't know I just it. I was really unsure of how it was going to go I'm not sure why I was confused I mean I did know somewhat it was taking place the same time as the 1st girl child's story took place but at the same time Very intrigued by it. I will have to say though that rob knocked it out of the park he is such a phenomenal narrator and does this world so much Justice I hope if they continue to make more books of this world that he is the narrator.

a love story across the continent

The Second Blind Son is the sequel and I teeter on using this word to the first girl child. This Story is the same timeline, and you see similar scenes throughout however from the perspective of mainly Ghisla one of the daughters of Saylok, and Hod a blind boy who has spent his life raised by a Keeper of Saylok.

This view of the same timeline brought so much to the life of this story, as you get to see some of the inner workings of the Keepers, and more into Northmen you meet in the first book. While the first girl child had more of a focus on what was happening, in the second blind son you see the Love story of two young people and the longing to be together, and a world where they can’t be. While you also get the story of growth, and see the flaws of the characters just like in the first book.

This audiobook was a joy to listen to. Lovely prose and heartfelt story. The narration was perfect but I did speed it up as notch to 1.1

So glad to read this trilogy

I didn’t know this was book 3 until I started reading it. Was glad I had read the first two. Loved how it picked up where it left off. Loved Bear and Hode. Very romantic yet not too sexual. I hope there’s a Book 4!

Fantastic story

This is the first Amy Harmon story I’ve listened to and i must say i loved the story and narrator. 450 pages/16 hours of listening. It is a strong medieval story with complexity, fantasy (power of ruins), good vs evil, strategy, angst and romance. I didn’t know it was the second in series so I’m excited to get the first.

Beautiful story and narration

It’s no secret that I love Amy Harmon. I’ve been hooked on her books from the first I stumbled upon. This book does not disappoint. It’s definitely at the top of one of my favorites. The book is exciting and the characters vivid. Such a great companion to The First Girl Child. The narrator is also superb. It’s a great read and a great listen.
