Publisher's summary

Behind the men who shaped history are the heroes who forever changed it.

In The Scribe, the fifth and final book in the Sons of Encouragement series, beloved author Francine Rivers illuminates the life of Silas. Like the other Sons of Encouragement, this book tells the story of a lesser-known biblical character who made an impact on eternity. The Scribe tells the story of Silas, the man behind the spotlight who recorded most of the New Testament Scriptures we know today. In classic Francine Rivers style, the story lets listeners grasp the scriptures in a whole new light from a perspective never before imagined. Along the way, listeners will be captivated by the growth of the early church and the trials Paul suffers before he is martyred for the cause of Christ.

Clear, Compelling, and Courageous

Having spent most of my life studying the bible, I had never studied the character of silas who was paul's companion and the churches inspiring servant. What was it like for those who were left behind after the commissioned, individuals had been graduated to heaven? What happens when the support staff now leads? These are questions that demand consideration and contingency of incorporation of heart. A wonderful and compelling story of oneI hope to meet someday.

Last in series. 😪

I have read the series on different men in the Bible from Aaron to this last, Silas. Francine Rivers does a wonderful job of making these persons from the Bible much more real to me. They have fears, anger, hesitation, doubts....in short any one of us. Love the series of the men as much as the series of five different women

Very good.

This was very very good, & I really enjoyed it! I do wish, though, that there would be a pause or something to indicate a change of times, etc.

Great story

It confirms that God used people with the same desires, needs and weaknesses that we have. She is an awesome story teller.

Francine Rivers is an amazing writer.

I loved this series of the Sons of encouragement. She gives the best insight through the biblical text and bridges the gap between people from then and people now but one fact always remains is that God's words never change.

good but...

I love anything from Francine Rivers. this one is no different. however, I take offense at the every mention of a slave, nearly, they're black slaves. There were slaves of all types mentioned in the beginning but Ethiopian or black saves are always mentioned specifically. Black people weren't the only victims of Roman oppression. please stop pin pointing black people as slaves.

Not Rivers’ best / melodramatic narration

Francine Rivers is one of my favorite authors. This was not her best. Much of the story was a recap of the Bible almost directly. She usually does more to bring the characters to life. Hardly any character development here.
The narration was not good IMO. He made Silas sound whiny. He tried too hard with the characters making them almost into caricatures. He put so much personal inflection that it seemed at times to change what Rivers was actually trying to say.
