This series seems really all over the place. Maybe the original book flowed together better but the box set is weird. I paid for it so I listened to it all, but not sure if I’ll get the second box set.

I really enjoyed this series (books 1-4). It is a series of multiple storylines temporally unrelated, which keeps it interesting. There is certainly much less zombie action than most books in this genre and they seemed more like an after thought. The series would have been better without because the character development was so good. By the end of book 4 it was if I knew each of them. The Erin, Izzy, Marcus storyline was definitely my favorite but all storylines were great and the narration was top notch.

Well written and great narrator

Good post apocalypse series

The author does a great job at moving through the stories of multiple individuals. He paints a great picture of how they cope with a post-apocalyptic world in various ways. Also, the narrator does a phenomenal job! He does multiple voices and accents that really draws you into the story. However, if you're looking for a zombie thriller, look elsewhere. The author uses the word epiglottis almost more frequently than there was zombie action. Really, I've never read/listened to another book that used that word more frequently. It was almost like he was proud that he knew what it was and found ways to incorporate it as often as he could. But, I digress, these are interesting reads, I just wanted to let people know that these books are more about how people make it through life when almost everyone is dead and not so much about zombies (they are in there, but not all that much).

Barely a zombie book(s)

Having read these books previously, listening to the audiobook version was like going back and revisiting “old friends” only this time they were given a voice other than my imagination. These stories skip through time and between characters in a manner that shouldn’t work at all, but once you are into the stories you begin to pick up on the flow of each of the separate stories and get a feel of what came before as well as what comes after based on different characters timeline. I will have to admit the audiobooks caused me to pick up on two separate characters timelines crossing that I never noticed as I was reading the books.
L.T. Vargus and Tim McBain create some dark characters and in some cases some very dark stories but when you take all the characters and their stories in this series together it becomes a very rich and complete tale of a post-apocalyptical America.

This is a great post-apocalyptic zombie survival series! I usually stick to authors that I know because I hate bad writing, so it took some convincing for me to try these new authors I had never heard of. I'm so glad I gave them a chance! I love their books and it's really cool how prolific they are, because I regularly have a new book to read. This series is deeply disturbing, complex, scary, exciting - everything you want in a story about the end of the world. I love the characters, and I love seeing them develop over time. This series has kept me up late on many nights already and I'm looking forward to more sleepless nights with them. I've started listening to the audio books now after already reading the books, and I love the narrators and the experience of getting the story in this format! And I'm getting more out of the story that I missed on my first reading. Great series!

This story caught me from the beginning. The characters seem like just everyday people. There aren't any superheroics or overly made up personalities. Regular people with regular reactions in a very irregular world. A world where bad people do good things and good people do bad things to survive sometimes.

The formatting style of the book is a bit off putting until you get the hang of how it works. One chapter will be like 25 days before, then the next could be nine years after. Literally. Eventually you understand the flow, though, and when you do it's smooth sailing. In addition to time jumping, you are moving between characters. This lends to another bit of confusion until mastered. When you get all this untangled, you understand and appreciate the time and talent it took to create it. But it is different and difficult in the beginning, so be forewarned.

I was so glad to have this as a set. Though each book can be read alone, personally I was wanting more. Even at the end of the last book.

On a normal day, I am not a big fan of audio books. I have issue with most narrators. There's usually something that's a bit off each time I've tried one. But huge kudos go out to Christopher Boucher. I thoroughly enjoyed this man's narrating style. In my opinion, he gave the book enhanced feeling, character, believability and even some refinement. He didn't over-act but did put in changes in voice, accent, and personality. He enunciated clearly and precisely, but never clipped or chopped. And being in the southern United States, I give him extra points for not butchering our accent and slang. He is thus far, the best narrator I've ever heard.

I believe you will really enjoy this set of books. 37 1/2 hours is a long time, but well worth it. Reading would have been a pleasure... and possibly simpler to figure out the layout... but you really need to hear this read aloud by Christopher Boucher.
