About this listen

Perhaps the most famous alias of all time, The Scarlet Pimpernel hides the identity of a British nobleman who, masked by various disguises, leads a band of young men to undermine the Reign of Terror after the French Revolution.

The Scarlet Pimpernel makes daring raid after daring raid into the heart of France to save aristocrats condemned to the guillotine. At each rescue, he leaves his calling card: a small, blood-red flower--a pimpernel--mocking the power of Robespierre and his Committee of Public Safety.

Having been told that his own wife was an informer who delivered an aristocrat into the hands of the Committee, the Scarlet Pimpernel must keep his identity and work a secret while he struggles against the love he feels for her. Until the day her own brother is taken prisoner....

Michael Page brings this book alive, and summons its characters, making them all the more memorable. His third-person narration is fast-paced and lively. Just get it. I demo'd every single recording as of late 2016, and none of them compare.

Great book and narration

The narrator did a good job, the different voices for each character made it easy to follow and the voice for Sir Percy which I think makes the story was really good. :)

Well done!

Was a rereead from adolescence, but God's fish it was better now as an adult than I recall as a child.

Brilliant Voice Acting

The narrator gave an inspired performance that drew me in and held me for the entire 8 hours of the book. An entertaining work of historical fiction.

If you could sum up The Scarlet Pimpernel in three words, what would they be?

Historic romantic adventure

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Scarlet Pimpernel - he offers such an amazing blend of audacious heroism and romantic vulnerability.

What does Michael Page bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This narration is one of the best I've ever listened to. He is able to bring the characters fully to life, while somehow keeping from overdoing the nuances of each personality. Wonderful.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Trite as it sounds, I didn't want the story to end.

Any additional comments?

I will look for other stories narrated by Michael Page!

One of my favorite stories & outstanding narration

Though I've read this book several times, it never quite came to life the way it did when read by Michael Page. His performance is exceptional and I would recommend this version above all others.

Excellent

What can I say? Excellent from page to page.

Orczy is uses detail,.drama, and whimsical phrases in her book. Percy by far is my favorite character. My favorite part was the scene in which Chauvelin came into the ballroom looking for the Pimpernel leader only to find Percy sleeping on the couch.

No struggle here. Michael Page is a wonder moving from Engliah to French at a moment's notice. Going to reread for sure.

Marvelous!
